I know this is how I would rule it. And I have been known to make mistakes This is how I read the cards that says: roll a dice.. if you roll a 6 no player recieves vc for this card. That means that the opposing player doesn't get VC1 for destroying it. It also means that player with the equipment doesn't get VC2 for the equipment at the end of the game. This seems risky to me. I would probably end up rolling lots of sixes. You would lose a lot of vc2 points from a single dice roll. Doesn't this seem risky to anyone else?

Well, there is supposed to be a risk/reward in place. The gear would ideally be useful enough to help you get enough VC1 to stay ahead. But yes, I agree that you would be at a VC2 deficit if you lost the gear. In many ways it is the same as playing a SA or FP.

and Knowing my dice roles.. It wouldn't be a good use of points ;P This could be a dice roll that changes the game pretty quickly by 1 unfortunate roll of the dice.

I don't like the fact that you don't get any points for it at the end of the match. But look at it this way. If you lose the mech, your opponent gets VC1. If theres no gear on it he gets less VC1. If you lose a VTOL do you complain because you won't get VC2 for it?
Basically, if you roll and the gear destructs, no one gets it. It happens on mechs alot anyways when arms get blown off. At least if you lose the gear and the mech goes down your opponent does not get the points.

Ah, but who wants to win all the time? I kind of like these equipments that have the possibility to self-destructing, it adds some suspense to the mix. I use them sometimes when I know I will be going against new/not-so-talented competition. Anyone on this board could play it safe and boring and take out a newbie in twenty minutes, but where is the FUN in that. I've had gears blow up on me before and it sucks for a bit, but then you adjust and continue the match. No one here would use them in a high-level tournament, but they add to the uncertainty of Mechwarrior and when I go against newbies and the such, I like that.

I was just making sure I hand't missed something. I hadn't heard anyone really talk about the down side of them. It does make me nervous to play against people who place everything on die rolls. Some of my scariest games have been against players who say.. Gee I only need to roll a 16.. Then the game will be much easier.. I get nervous against that.. especially when eventually they are going to roll their 15.. 3 times in a row and you will miss your rolls ;P In unrestricted I tend to have a lot more relaxation and tend to not mind playing some junky units
