It's a slow morning. Is everyone anxiously awaiting the big MW announcement for today? I must say, I am hoping it is good news, but I am fearful that it is not. But at least WK is making SOME announcement about MW's future. The silence they have had regarding outlaws and beyond has been disconcerting to say the least, especially after going from being VERY upbeat about mechwarriors future at the Origins EAN to being VERY evasive about what the future will bring during Gencon.

Its a slow morning sure, but I am more anxious about you posting another incindiary battle report from our VASSAL Dreamblade play over the weekend. Brag if you must, but please, do it quick and spare me hours of fear and anticipation.

According to Jonas, there is an announcement from the VP of WK about MW due to hit the website today. I actually wasn't going to post anything about our weekend battles, DD. Mostly because I played a LOT of dreamblade this weekend (like 12 games or so) and the details are a bit fuzzy. But since you brought it up, I'll be sure to point out publicly that you've still not beaten me and that you weren't even drunk this time. No excuses! Z

Well, its 7:08 my clock and still no announcement. Are they girl thingying out? DO they actually have anything good to tell us? Can DragonDawg ever defeat on an equal playing field?
News at 11.

I was in the office for more than 11 hours today working in hopes of getting the announcement up today but unfortunately sometimes things just don't fall in place and it's being pushed back.
Rest assured, it *IS* coming, and it's good news
Good news for who..?

That was an announcement? I've given more inspiring speeches on a toilet.
And who was the guy who made the announcement? I've never heard of him. Seems like more corporate bullsh*t if you ask me. They gave us NO answers to anything. They were pretty on-par with politicians and their wishy-washy promises. So much for this game....

Good News - or Bad?
WizKids letter to the Mechwarrior Community
For a number of weeks, many of you have been asking about the future of MechWarrior. The absence of information regarding our next MechWarrior release has some people nervous, and the rumor mill is beginning to churn. Additionally, our recent reorganization affected the MechWarrior team, so it’s not surprising that people have questions.
Accordingly, we would like to take a moment of your time to give you a MechWarrior update.
First and foremost, MechWarrior has not been cancelled. We look forward to supporting this game in 2007 and beyond. To do so, we need to make careful decisions about the best way to move this business forward for the fans.
We made numerous changes to the game configuration with Wolf Strike, and though we believe these changes were for the better, we need to see their effect on the community before we take further action. Player and retailer feedback is coming in on the new configuration and we will review this information before making future decisions for MechWarrior products. (In fact, if you have an opinion on the new package configuration and price point, we want to hear about it.) We are also aware of some Wolf Strike quality-control issues, and want to assure you that our goal is to release expansions without these issues in the future.
Though the line is not being cancelled, we will need time to incorporate feedback from the community and retailers as well as revisit the quality-control issues. Our goal is to have another MechWarrior chat sometime in November, when we’ll tell you specifically what’s in store for MechWarrior in 2007 and 2008.
Please be assured that we have exciting things in mind for MechWarrior. Come join us at the chat in November; we think you’ll like what you’ll hear.
Joe Hauck EVP of Sales, Marketing and Product Development
I can only imagine that "Joe" has been taking lessons from the British Govt in the way that he delivers "news".
Its what this announcement doesn't say that is the worrying part.
What is going to change between the 17th of October and time of the Chat - thats 43 days at the most. Are Wolf Strike sales figures the key? If they are, why don't they say that?
You're not telling me that the future shape and format of MW will decided upon in the next 6 weeks. It was probably not even worth advertising this as a major announcement - the silence is deafening.
I would imagine that the process of figure and game design for the release beyond Outlaws would already be underway by now. If that isn't the case, then surely there has to be a gap between Outlaws and anything that follows on.

hmm. I think you hit the nail on the head, Phil. My best guess is that WS sales in the next month+ will be EXACTLY what determines the future of mech. If they actually come out and say that, they'll lose sales to people not bothering to buy in. Without saying anything, they lose sales to those of us who are going to wait until we are given something definite. I have bought one WS booster and thats very likely to be all I am going to buy until I get solid information about where mech is headed.
I'm pretty disappointed with the announcement. A little " outlaws is due out January XX and the next expansion, called XXXXXX, will hit streets on MAY XX. We have outlined the next three expansions after that. Further we are implementing the following changes to the tournament structure which will help us compete in a changing CMG market: XXXXX"
Without that key information, I'm still not sold on actual continuing mechwarrior support.

Actually, I got rather the opposite impression. Joe is a VP at WK, so this message is coming from above the heads of the MW staff, and the message is that the line will continue into 2008.
Because of the normal production schedule, Wolf Strike was near complete when the new team took over, and since then, Outlaws should be ready to go into production. Essentially, Joe is saying that they're giving the team a little more time to look over the successes and failures of Wolf Strike, and get as much feedback from players and retailers as they can, so the team can potentially make some changes to the Outlaws release that they wouldn't normally have time to do.
Yes, he doesn't say much more than that, but the other thing I appreciate about the announcement is that implies that 'anything goes' at the moment for future releases, so they don't want to tell us one thing, then have that change over the next month. Honestly, if it was going to be an announcement about what the plans are for upcoming sets, it would have come from MW Staff. The only sort of announcement about the line we'd expect from WK higher management is a thumbs down or thumbs up.
