I'd watch out for the A28 Pilot Card - it only grants +2 AV to vehicles and inf. This is a good ability but it does mean that the pilot is still limited to 2/1/1. I thought that its ability was "this unit and all infantry and vehicles in 6" gain +2 AV and -1 DV", I'll have to take a look at this when I get off work. Apologies, you're quite right so apart from the Thor, it looks like the best reason to get the Wolf Spider's set is for the Pilot Cards. I've edited my last post to show A28 being used instead of A27.

Its cool, its funny that the difference of three words can make the difference can make a pilot playable though. However I am a bit confused on how A28 can get by at costing 30pts with 9pts recruit, while A24 costs 50 with a 15pt recruit, A26 costs 45pts, and A27 costs 35. Can the negative modifier and the fact that the bonus doesn't work on formations balance the cost out?

The points cost do seem a bit random and the fact that there are so many Majors and Sgts also adds to the confusion.
As for A28, he could sit nicely in a WH Thor with IT for only 278 points. Add in Merc FP and use a Zahn/WH Kelswa drop you can also take advantage of his abilities. Those pieces and the FP come in at 418 points. The WH Thor hasn't the best AV around and another 20 points will get you the Wolf's Spiders variant - albeit with less range.
As for the Goshawk, I'm not sure if the starting AV can make up for its heat management and points cost over the CJF version.
With Zikhali and RISC Overcharger, it comes to 199 points and can't take advantage of the Falcon's MDFA. Granted you get an AV of 13 and a potential move of 14 inches. A Merc Gunslinger recruited to CJF (such as Petersen) will bump the points value to 210. You would then need to add a Faction Pride card to gain MDFA and this will be cancelled by TG.
The CJF Version can be piloted by a CJF Warrior for 154 points (AV of only 11 but a move of up to 16 with the Overcharger) and it gains MDFA. Using Tilman, the cost goes up to 171 points but the AV is now 12. The CJF variant also has a better heat dial with a 3 Vent to get it out of trouble.
As much as I'd like to add the Wolf's Dragoons Goshawk to my list of "must use" mechs, I think I'll settle for the big green bouncing machine.

I agree, although I'd like to run the Merc FP and WH kelswa+Zahn those peices are simply not available in this area. I'm kind of stuck with what comes in the packaged sets, if not for southpaw I wouldn't have any transports or Tanks for that matter. I'd wish they came out with a tank and infantry set
