Alright, well hello to the members of this forum and such. I go by another name, Captain of C-21, on other Forums, but that title proved to long for this board, so I went with my other alias, The Kaiser.
Anyways, onto the reason of this thread. As I wait for the Cats(Nova and Spirit) to become more tournament viable(Without having to rely on either "Anima" or "Grinder"), I have recently been finding much use in my second faction, the Steel Wolves. And in recents tourneys, I have found a build that has been immensely successful, pulling off a couple of first places, in fact.
1 Thunder Fox w/NAIS Grad w/Medium Armor Piercing 1 "Phoenix" Jade Hawk w/Sebastian Paschke(BONDSMAN) w/Heavy Armor Piercing 1 Hanse MBT 3 Undine Battle 1 DF Gun Nest(BONDSMAN) 1 Merc Salamander Battle Armor(BONDSMAN)
Total:600pts exactly.
Now, the basic strategy with this army is to place a piece of Hindering on the right-hand side of your side of the board, and a piece of blocking, perferably the H shaped one, diagonally next to it. The T-Fox then jumps into it, and stays there until it is forced to move. The Salamander sits nearby, waiting for an opening against figures threatening the T-Fox(Like a mech basing it) The Hanse and Undines stick together information, the Undines acting as a screening force, usually sitting right in front of the Tank. The Hanse takes position behind the blocking, perferably inside of one of the H's sides. The Jade Hawk can go perferably in the middle of the two terrains, but back a little bit so as to not put itself in harm's way.
The Jade Hawk is meant to balance out the T-Fox's range, with it's close combat abilities. The Armor Piercing is merely on it for back-up and that it was the only thing I could think to put on it. With its 20" charge, or 10" DFA, the Jade Hawk is quite useful in supporting either the Hanse and T-Fox, or going out on its own "hunt". And with 6 clicks possible with rapid strike, it makes for one mean encounter.
Now, one of the starting advantages of this army is no FPs or SAs. It is 600pts full of nothing but units, meaning it already starts the game winning against armies with FPs, SAs, or missing a point or two. It is meant to be a defensive army for that purpose, and with the T-Fox's possible 24 defense in hindering, serves that role nicely.
Now before the Vets here start ripping this army apart with such words as "Never would survive at Nationals or Worlds and such!" Just note one thing. The venue I play at, MOST of the players are generally laid back, using Pure faction as much as possible(I said most, there may be one or two that do not, but just as an example, the last Storyline tourney, EVERYONE brought either Pure faction, or Alliance armies, including SH and HK), meaning, I do not have to worry about armies with SSw Arrow4s, and Laio ATVs, and a Kelswa Tank Drop, etc., etc. And secondly, I really have no plans to ever go onto Wolrds and Nationals, have no plans to. So basically, judge this army as if all the armies it would face were "scrubby" as well.
Many thanks on any opinions and/or comments.

Again, welcome. The army, as I found out to my demise last tuesday, is a solid one. I'm not sure you need the armor piercing on both mechs, especially since you are more likely to be close combatting with the Jade Hawk. It seems like you could use the points for some formation builders like the LRM batteries I showed you. I'm sure Wayne or someone will have some to trade. Get 2 and put them in a bondsman SC anat. That way, you get a better shot with your Thunderfox and you can spread your army points around a bit.
My $.02 anyway.
Z
By the way, while you have no plans to go to nationals or worlds.... you are getting good enough to make it there.

The only disadvantage of that is unless played in Unrestricted, my army will be off 7 points AP Heavy 44points - Anat 29pts -36 LRM Batteries I would have to take out the Sally and Gun Nest, and there would be nothing to fill the 7 point gap, unless I played unrestricted, and was therefore able to use Tora's unruly Mob. But thanks for the idea, I will toy around with that a bit. Thank you for the compliment, but there is still a considerable difference in getting there and being able to compete with the people there. My current 450 would probably be laughed off the board for it's design(and being SW, no less...). But still, thanks.

Meh, I have renamed the thread because it makes more sense to me to just have one thread where I post my SW armies(And possibly I shall change the name again for NC/SC when Annihalation comes out).
Anyways, here is the army I plan on running tomorrow at my venue's 450 constructed. It is Steel Wolf(Obviously) and 450, perfect.
1 Thunder Fox w/NAIS Graduate Pilot w/Medium Armor Piercing 1 Blade w/Albion Graduate Pilot 1 Hanse MBT 3 Undine Battle Armor
Planetary Conditions:Active Volcanoes/Desert WWasteland
Total:450 points
So yes, this is basically a "mini" version of the 600 point version I play. The advantage again is being 450 completely, without SAs or FPs is that I will automatically be in the lead if the opponent is either not 450 full, or using SAs or FPs.
It follows the same strategy as the larger version. A piece of hindering on the right-hand side for the T-Fox to get into, a piece of blocking on the left-hand side, which the Hanse MBT then goes behind. The Undines stand guard behind it in base contact. The Blade serves as support to either Heavy Hitter, staying inbetween the two pieces of terrain, but back far enough as to not bring into range of the enemy's guns.
The Active Volcanoes is a staple for Steel Wolves armies, serving as a beter FP for those pieces(T-Fox) that cannot get to their sweet spot without being attacked. The Desert Wasteland (IMO) helps this army fufill its defensive roles by denying the enemy water to sit back in and hide. And being that both of my mechs usually will be out of water, and usually cool by venting anyways, they will not be hurt by it as much the enemy will.
Just remember in comment and critiques. My opponents will mostly be playing scrub-like armies, Pure Faction with limited Arty, if any. There is only one particular player I am worried about, a certain Administrator on these boards that shall go unnamed for the time being, that might bring out a rainbow army. Although I am guessing with Worlds and Nats. behind us all(Except Baw, who is up there right now), he will nto have to be praticing with his Nats. and Worlds., so he probably bring in a regular Faction pure army, hopefully.
Many thanks to any and all replies.

Hey now! I resemble that remark.
At any rate, I doubt I will be there tonight. It is my wife's night off.
And for the record, the 450 army in my box this month is alliance pure.
Good luck!

I have always have had a hard time with Steel wolves units. I like to hit hard quickly.. They usually need to be worked into it. I never seem to get the timing correct.

How did Tuesday's game go, Captain? Did you win again?!? Z Ah, as the typical gambler would say, luck was not with me on that night. My first match my dice failed to get over a 10 the entire time until all I had left was...2 Undine. And being unable to hit the enemy mechs, usually is not such a good thing. Second match, same thing. Unable to hit when it was really needed cost me. Third match, my dice returned from their stupor and began to roll regularly again. The match came down to the wire, my army surviving with a salvaged Hanse and 2 undines against his two Towed Guass Rifles. I stayed out of his frozen infantry and made my way to his DZ, took out his last two pieces and secured VC1 and 2. Took fellowship though, got the Rokurokubi's correct pilot, which was I had come for, so except for my lousy dice rolls in the first match, it turned out a good night(Seriously, horrible rolls on my part).

Uhh, do not recall guy's name, He is the one who has that Deluxe starter box however.
Anyways, have a new SC/DF/HK army wanted to post. Not sure if it i entirely legal yet, but without Annihalation previews of new PIECES(Instead of this gear they keep showing off), I have limited ideas for the Cats.
1 Uziel w/ Spirit Cat Star Captain w/ Medium Pulse 1 Rokurokubi "Sei-gi"(Justice) w/ Stephan Dirks w/ Light Evade 3 SC PAL Suit 1 DF PAL Suit (Formation with all PALs)
Total:450pts
I do not plan on playing this, however I did just want to design a SC and HK army with the Rokurokubi in it, and this was the idea that popped in my head. I now this is currently illegal build via Fluff pure armies until Annihalation comes out with the NC/HK Grand Alliance, Sc/NC& HK/DF House Alliances, but that is why I do not plan to play this until then. Suggestion are welcome.

Alright, do not worry about the last army so much as this one. I have a 600 points unrestricted pieces only coming up at my tourney, and have decided to go back to Spirit Cats for old times sake. This is the current army build for it.
1 Marat Deleportas/Sphinx 255pts 1 Janis Nova Cat/Arbalest 122pts 1 Mikel Nova Cat/SM1 Destroyer 50pts 1 The Scorchers/Clan Battle Armor 26pts 1 Shadow Stalkers/Purifer Battle Armor 18pts 2 Clan Battle Armor 17/34pts 8 Hoverbike Squad(WHAT?!) 13/104pts
Total:599pts
Planetaries:Tornado & Ice Field
I am thinking of switching out Marat for two lighter mechs, but I think I would rather stick with a Heavy and Light, with the support. The formations are;
All the foot infantry in one. Hoverbike x3 Hoverbike x3 Mikel NC/2x Hoverbike
The plan is to use Marat as the "Hammer" with Janis hopping around from hindering and such. The hoverbikes base and tye up things(Although yes, units can now shoot out of base, a +1 or +2 is still good). Mikel is there to crack open fatties, running alongside Janis. I have always wanted to use Marat with his 6 clicks of damage, so now I get to.
Now, the rules are only DA, FFE, and DFA are tourney legal, so keep that in mind if you suggest any improvements. I am guessing being what the kind of people at my venue are, I will not fight that much artillery, maybe one or two at the max. Anyways, suggestions or comments?
