I think SU Evade is a decent set up for Emperor as that hardened armour can negate a lot of infantry shots and even minimise the damage Poseidon's streak missiles. Still more practice required. Yes, but who will fire at Emperor with his main shooter first? I would try 3 impossible shots first. Oh yeah they wont do any damage by themself... but do you have the guts to turn of your SU Evade and make my main guns shot that much easier? This is the most fun with 4 cnc atvs in formation range of the target.

I did play these 2 mechs last night against a WH Merc FP army with the Thor and a Kelswa drop. Merc FP meant that 1 of the mechs never got its full DV. I won the game but only because time ran out just before he would have captured my shut down Emperor.
I'm not a fan as I can't see the build winning against Ares or Merc FP. No support and that SA relies on your mechs being given an order, unlike the BR FP that can be used on any piece.
The Merc FP army worked well. I used it in the second game against a Thug/Soli/Vixen build and won the game in 30 mins.
Its a matter of whether Merc FP can still will if True Grit is in play.

Which Merc FP army did you use? Do you mean you used the same army that your opponent used in game 1?

Which Merc FP army did you use? Do you mean you used the same army that your opponent used in game 1? Yep - I used his army so he could see what it was like to face it. I think it needs a tweak or 2. His second drop was a R10 with 2 TGRs and a GD Scout BA. I have suggested he looks at a second (light) mech to support the Thor rather than 2 drops. I do like the Anubis and the Tokugawa lets you set up a HB shoot through blocking for both mechs. Thor/De Jesus/IT Anubis/Minoru Kurita/IT R10 ICV Tokugawa 3 x PAL Suits Merc FP The Vixen, which would loose the ballistic synergy with the HB, would give you much-needed energy together with anti pers and first strike. Thor/De Jesus/IT Vixen/Tamar Grad/RISC APM MHI APC 2 x TGRs 4 x Do CBA Merc FP Has anyone played Buzzkill and his pilot? Buzzkill is not too bad but the ability to hand out tokens or heat from his pilot is quite a nice one. A forgiving heat dial with a vent of 3 on an assault is also pretty decent. He could be a nice partner for Jack and Julz with Merc FP. No support left but some inf but with E Camo, he could even give Hammerfall some heat problems.

I'm settling on a build type now using a CW army with the Thor and Jack with a Padilla and 4 SRM teams in support. The Thor is a nice support piece for Jack and its Armour Piercing and Reactive Armour mean it can take some hits early on. The dial is probably the steadiest as it never dips below an AV of 9 or 3 damage.
Problem is that CW have so few troop types to choose from that I can't get the numbers to add up. My quandry is this. If I equip the Thor with IT and go for Markus Kerensky, I can fit in 4 CW SRM Teams but I'm 5 points short. I can't fit extra ammo (5pts Med) onto Jack as its a ballistic CEC.
I can swap IT for Inferno Ammo and make up the 5 points. The loss of IT is a crippler for me but Inferno Ammo has its attractions. Putting heat onto a target whilst shooting through blocking could pretty nasty. But do I sacrifice the IT? (Do I really need to ask tha tquestion when I know there are Duthc guys reading this?).
I'm comfortable with the build and the way it plays, so I don't want to tinker to much. The Padilla has proved its worth in most of its games and the 4 SRMs teams do keep basers and chargers away from the Thor.
So 5 points adrift and with IT or 600 and loose it?
CW Thor/Marcus Kerensky/Inferno Ammo Jack/Julz/CW Recruit CW Padilla 4 x CW SRM Teams
600 pts

But erm, cant you just take Steel Wolf infantry? I have not read about it being > AoD and they do have a nice house alliance. That would get you to >600< easily.

I does have to be AoD and after but good idea about the SW inf . There are 4 to choose from plus 1 more CW piece: Undine at 17pts PAL Suit at 17 pts LRM battery at 18 pts Salamander BA at 25 points CW Purifier at 21 points The SW Undine gives me another 10 inch firer with Arm Piercing and, although it puts me at 598, I'd rather take that than the LRM battery (599). I can get to 600 by taking just 3 inf (one CW Purifier and 2 SW Undines) but I need basers and blockers to keep the Thor safe. A bit more testing this week and then I'll decide.

Played another couple of games last night. Took Inferno Ammo on the Thor and faced a Shiro/Kuro Ha combo. It was a narrow loss and one that came about as I missed 1 shot that would have killed the Shiro. The lack of IT really hurt, so out goes Inferno and its IT for me (I'll worry about the lack of 600 points later on).
Second game, I took the Shiro (with IT) and Kuro Ha (with BAP) army (backed up with True Grit and 3 CNC ATVs). It took on a CW Thor and WH Vixen build with a few inf and a MH1 TGR drop in support. Shiro sat in water and behind blocking and my opponent stood off for too long. Kuro Ha is a great support piece and is perhaps more of a threat than the Shiro at times. End result was a quick 2-0 win in around 40 mins.
Only 1 more practice seesion at the club next week and I'll have to get Tom to start using his Thug build.

Was wondering if UK Nats had actually taken place and results. Sorry for being so late jumping in , I thought Zxqueb had retired and stopped visiting!
I also thought that UK nats was 'set' unrestricted, which would have had me looking for Swordsworn/Davion with some of the older artillery pieces.
Bannson's Raiders had a towed artillery piece for 2 damage that was a couldn't miss piece as well.
Ahh, the thought of tank dropping the old DF DI SChmitts also quite appealing.
The first strike army proposed using the RISK overcharger? How might that work with the SA which allows units to not be in formation when they fire.....
