OK, so its been a slow day at work but I was wondering what the maximum attack value was that MW pieces could get up to. I know the States loves big defences but bear with me.
There are probably 2 categories, Mechs and vehicles. The mechs may start off with the advantage but vehicles will be able to pick up formation fire bonuses.
Starting with the Mechs, there are a few pieces out there with a starting AV of 11 (I'll set Kurita to one side and concentrate on starting values). The ones I can find are the Metablade Solitaire, the CJF unique Shrike and the Wolf's Dragoon's Goshawk.
The Shrike and the Goshawk can both add +2 AV pilots taking them to 13. The Solitaire can add Kelly to reach 14. The Wolf's Spider Major now gives us a heavy pilot with an effective +3 AV which will take a LOT of heavy mechs into the 13 bracket.
The next factor is gear. Although IT doesn't boost the attack value per se, it is usuallly taken as a +2 equivalent on attack odds.
C3i is another interesting pieece of kit. I've never quite worked out how best to use it but 3 mech classes can carry it. I would imagine that 3 mechs in 1 army with C3i would work. Now if the first 2 are in a position to shoot (the Twins make pretty efficient C3i carriers as would any quick mech with Recon) and the 3rd mech moves up with its C3i, does that make another +2 to the attack or is it +3? There is potential here to move the Metablade up to a 16 attack. Still, raw numbers aren't everything and not only is C3i tricky, you could well end up with the same effect by fitting IT to your mechs.
I'll try and run Battleplanner if I get the chance to see what else I can find.
First thoughts are that the DF D1 Schmitt, in a firing formation with 3 WS Haublerk BA, and the Wolf's Spiders A28 card in support reaching something like 19 with IT...can't be right.
