I saw an interesting post on WK site I figured I would see what everyone here thinks...
The way the rules currently read..
Battlemech Jump Packs are not affected by Grapple. So if you have Jump Packs you break away on anything but a 1.
It might make Jump Packs a little bit more useful!

Battle Mech Jump Pack is a very useful gear indeed. I just wish you could use it to DFA, although then it would be borderline broken, since mechs that should never be able to DFA would be.

You mean like a Kodiak DFA'ing? lol. It would have made the gear very useful. It isn't cheap though. I haven't seen grapple become overwhelming but this is a countermeasure to it!

I really like Jump Pack simply because it adds alot to a mech. To be able to ignore terrain and other hinderances for movement is huge, since some mechs that are more energy based can hop walls and cut corners easily.
I just hope Jump Pack counts as Jump Jets for when Craig runs the Free Fall scenario again, or else I'll die really fast.

Here is the real question tho, does it grant enough versatility to a mech to not put more offensive weaponry such as pulse or Concussion Ammo (examples) or defensive equipment such as Decoy or Armor.
What do you think?

Kodiacks should be able to DFA, as Jump Jets is standard equipment on most Kodiack variants(Not just ones in MW:AoD, but also in Battletech over all).

I really didn't like the Jump packs. I thought there were mostly useless for their cost. I do see a couple of uses for them now.. If You are playing in a scenario with lots of terrain (blocking, woods or something like that) or you know you are going to see lots of grapple. Otherwise I don't care for it. It really isn't that effective an offensive power or defensive ability. I was really disappointed that it so costly and didn't allow DFA's! (that would have made the card an offensive capable card)

Allowing some heavy units to DFA is not a good Idea. Arhem. Miko and Kaminari with faction pride. Equils pain. Just think I DFA you into a corner piece then sweeping blow you into that wall then shoot the crap outta ya. Can we say shell shock. ;D Jump packs are useful though. just think of yami assualting backwards behind blocking terain. it's just sick.
