I'll be posting this same message on several different sites. My friends and I are planning a trip up to GenCon Indy in August (16-19), for the Mechwarrior Solaris VII World Championship and whatever else WizKids will give us that weekend.
Please respond to this post or PM me and let me know if you're interested in joining us. We'll be traveling up from Birmingham, Alabama, straight north through Tennessee and Kentucky to Indianapolis. We might also be interested in sharing hotel rooms, depending on how many of us get to go.
Thanks for your interest!

As far as I know, Southpaw, Warlord, Vladdswrath and myself will be at Gencon Indy with Dragondawg being a possibility. Southpaw will be running mech events. I'll probably jump in on some of the solaris action early in the con and switch to dreamblade for the 50K whenever that begins. We already have our hotel booked at the airport days inn. Cheap, decent rooms, free breakfast and an easy drive away from the con.

Thanks for the info, Zxqueb. I haven't been anywhere near Indy before, so any insider tips will be helpful. I'll look into the Days Inn, but it's probably already booked. I have reservations at Candlewood Suites about 2 miles from the convention.
I hope Dragondawg can make it. I met him at Unrestricted Worlds, DragonCon '05, but of course I was so bad at MW in those days that we never met during the tournament.
I've picked up Dreamblade recently and started playing at my local store. A 50K sure sounds tempting . . . I'd probably still play Solaris, though, since I might actually win at that game!
Thanks again, and I'll be looking for you guys once we get to Indianapolis. (And maybe more tips too - like parking, meals, etc.)

Thanks for the info, Zxqueb. I haven't been anywhere near Indy before, so any insider tips will be helpful. I'll look into the Days Inn, but it's probably already booked. I have reservations at Candlewood Suites about 2 miles from the convention. They may not be. They seem to be one of the last ones to book up. Of course, I've only been to one gencon, so my experience is rather more limited than many other people. You and me both! Hear that Mike? Your presence is requested by the community at large! 50k is going to be good times with good players and a heck of an awesome prize. The problem is that you need 1000 Dreamblade DCI points to qualify for the tournament. With new restrictions on 1ks, it'll be hard to get that many points if you are just starting out at this point. My recommendation is to keep your eyes peeled near you for 1ks and (better yet) 10ks to get the points you'd need to compete. We'll be getting there on Wednesday night so we'll be wondering from Thursday on! Z

I was able to book a room at Days Inn Airport, so we might be near you guys. The info I have says that the hotel is about 8 miles from the convention center - did you have a problem with parking there last year?
I knew that DB had a DCI points system, but I didn't realize how hard it would be to get in. Maybe I should stick with MW, and look for Dreamblade side-events at GenCon?
Thanks again Z!

I was able to book a room at Days Inn Airport, so we might be near you guys. The info I have says that the hotel is about 8 miles from the convention center - did you have a problem with parking there last year? We didn't have a problem parking at all, but we tended to get there very early every day to beat the rush. With all the video gamers who are going to be there this year, it may be a bit worse. The hotel is 8 miles, yes, but it's a 4-5 minute highway trip. Not a bad drive at all (though definitely not walking distance). It's only hard to get into the 50k -- that's like MW worlds -- you need to qualify for the main event. You do not need to have points to play in 1ks or 10ks. One of the nice things about DCI rankings is that as long as you have the 1000 points, you can play. If you started when the game came out and hit several of bigger tournaments, you have that pretty easily win or lose. I like that DCI rewards PLAYING rather than WINNING (i.e.; no negative points for losses so you can play off the wall stuff from time to time and just have fun). I also know of players who play a lot, but don't win a lot but who are qualified and psyched about going. It's a cool, inclusive system. Z

Well, the news is here...and it's good and bad.
GOOD: Clinicals don't start until Aug 20th...so I can go to Gen Con!
BAD: I ran into my friend Brian who Karmacly destroys me for some reason...The following day my Van spectacularly exploded...So my trip to Gen Con is now dependant on if I can get it fixed or not...

I'm glad to hear that! Well, not about your car -- but since we aren't going to be going in your car anyway (as we don't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere), and since you have literally MONTHS to fix it, it seems pretty safe that you'll be able to make it.
Just stay away from Brian.

since you have literally MONTHS to fix it, it seems pretty safe that you'll be able to make it. While it's true I have months to fix it, the repair (or replacement)will probably swallow the Gen Con fund. Now I could concievably just not fix it, and spend all the money on gaming...and that most certainly would not make me a complete failure of an adult . -Vladd

Failure as an adult yes, failure as a gamer, NEVER!
