I'm happy...I rose to the occasion and Pwnd! In a mediocre sort of way I squeezed out 100 PT points for the 50K!!! The event put me at an even 250. Now I get 2 unreadable dice next 1K... Only 750 more to go before GenCon...

I've started looking at some of the close 1ks and am thinking vaguely of roadtripping to a few. We have:
South Bend IN on Dec 30 Columbus, OH on Jan 27 New Holland PA on Feb 24 Oberlin OH on March 3
Columbus and Oberlin are really likely, and I am going to try to start negotiations on the homefront about roadtripping on the 30th, if anyone is interested. It's ~4 hours from us. We can make it there and back in the same day and it would be cool to share gas, driving etc. Anyone interested?
Hitting those 3 + local edge should get us close to the thousand needed for gencon. Of course, Gencon starts on the 16th, so it may be after the beginning of my school year -- that could be potentally probematic. But that's what personal days are for!

I am 100 percent in on Columbus and Oberlin...As for the other two, I seriously doubt being able to hit Southbend but you might want to talk to Josh because I believe he was going...New Holland I can work on because I have time to prepare (the wife and finances) heh...

I ran Dealing with Dragons or whatever you call it, minus a Barog. I ran Boots in its place. Came in 8th with a 5-2 record. Lost my first 2 game and won the next 5.
Good jorb on 3rd!

Columbus and Oberlin are pretty much guaranteeable. South Bend is harsh. PA is a maybe as well. Its far enough away we can try. It just depends on work. It would be cool though for the roadtrips. We all remember Gencon in the van. -W

Mapquest tells me that South Bend is about 4.5 hours from me, so maybe 4 from you guys. The one in PA is farther -- 5.5+ hours away (and more than that from the west side) as I recall which is a tad far for me. 4.5 hours isn't bad -- I figure we can leave here at 7-7:30 am and get home around midnight. It would be a lot of driving but having people to talk with would make it more do-able as a day trip. Of course, I'll still need to wait a few days until I start trying to convince Jen that it would be cool for me to take a trip on the 30th. Z

How did the boots work for you? I had pretty mixed luck with them in testing. Do you have any advice for making them more reliable?

My playtesting buddy Kevin had tried it out and claimed it was sooooo good. They are a OK mini, not game breaking, I did destroy two or three locations during the 1K. If you have a castle or arch to get them into combat fast they are decent. Otherwise I would leave them at home. Yes, I ran double temple. My second round loss was to Greg Pippard, which was a mirror match and for the most part those matches come down to init. My first round loss was to the guy who looked like Grizzly Adams, Luke I believe. That man couldn't miss a freak'n dice roll during our game. As an example his Hawkeyed Instigator killed my Ragedrake on a deathblow of 11 off of 4 dice.

I had some lucky turns and pinned him out of the game pretty quickly. He was due some luck as his was not really great in our game. Still a 4 die ragedrake kill is nuts! Yikes! Boots + double temple seems like it would have the ability to win the spawn race over the course of the game. But it never has worked out for me that way in actuality.

Divorce...Southbend...Divorce...Southbend... Eh...I'd probably end up finishing in the exact middle with a .500 record like I always do... Probably not worth the child support payments.....Have fun!
