I spent some time today analyzing the top 8 armies. There are some interesting statistics in there. I'll present the ones that I thought were significant or surprising here and let you draw your own conclusions:
ARMY BREAKDOWN: Armies used 42 different pieces among the total 128 warband slots (16X8). There are 216 pieces available right now (I believe it was 96 in the base set and 60 each in the two expansions) -- so we are seeing ~20% of the availible pieces used in top 8 warbands in the NY 10K
OF NOTE:
ZERO Infernal Preachers, Sprites, swarm bands or Single color bands were seen in the top 8.
1/8 contained Caged Grawlth 1/8 contained Azika Twins 1/8 (only) contained probability walker.
2/8 had anti-location tech 2/8 used tattooed squashbug 2/8 ran 4 colors
3/8 were reaper armies 3/8 had appease pieces 3/8 ran voodoo / sultan control engine 3/8 ran 3 colors 3/8 ran 2 colors (all of which finished in the top 4)
4/8 Chose Redcap over creeper 4/8 had trample 4/8 could spawn two pieces on a first turn spawn of 5
5/8 ran boogeyman
6/8 ran warcharms (5 of the 6 ran double charm) 6/8 had 7 or more rares (the other 2 had 5 and 6 -- the most was 9) 6/8 ran aviax firebrand
7/8 ran cannibal pariah 7/8 ran Infernal gothic
8/8 ran exactly 2 locations 8/8 had spawn phase movement abilities 8/8 had spawn accelleration (the least being a single temple, the most being double temple + barag)

Alot of Temple Boring Team won then. Nice. So much for a diverse metagame. Double Temple seems stupid. No single aspect bands at all? Wow. I thought there would be easily the Preacher combo, that just vomits of broken. Too bad Mono-Valor will win this saturday. -W

One temple and no barag doesn't constitute crazy temple to me.. just a nice soft boost. The champ was running a pretty smooth curve. To me, a non-energized build curves like this: 2-4: 8 pieces, 5-7: 4 pieces 8+: 4 pieces. This build runs 8/3/5 which is very close to optimal even without the temple (of course 3x 11 spawn creatures makes that just a bit high without temple)
I'm still surprised with the lack of anti-location tech displayed in the top 8

Well you can play around most of the location hate avoiding combats or adjusting location placement. The only solid piece anti location piece is the sludger. Its true that loaction hate can get games, but its not consistent enough to make it into the top 8, i'd bet that rank 9-16 had alot of temple hate in them.

I don't know-- Start around 7 or 8pm? I'll meet wherever is convenient - If it's easier on you to have it at your place, that's fine with me Jeff.
