You got any good ideas for a 600 pt firepower army in unrestricted tonight? I want to try some new figures and you are much better at throwing armies together It really doesn't have to be pure firepower but it should have some. I will end up spending time in waiting room while son has surgery. I will try to put an army together to keep thinking about that!

Hey... I'm just taking a short break from getting ready for the middle school musical.... I won't have time to throw something together today, but why don't you run this one from the archives:
*4/15/05* Stormhammers Griffin - 160
Mercenary Zahn Heavy Transport – 30 --Highlanders Kelswa Assault Tank – 104
Mercenary Zahn Heavy Transport – 30 -- Swordsworn DI Towed AA Artillery – 32
Swordsworn DI Towed AA Artillery – 32
Dragon’s Fury Garrot – 33 --Mercenary Sniper Team x3 – 24 (72)
Liao ATV x3 – 12 (36)
BR minigun cycle – 14
Bannson’s Raiders Sprint Scout – 34 -- Bannson’s Raiders Fa Shih – 23
Total = 600pts
As promised, today’s army is based off of yesterdays. It’s still a bit order intensive, but MUCH more competitive at 600 points. In this iteration of the army, I changed the infantry drop to mercenary sniper team so that it can be used by either the Griffin or the Kelswa depending on need. The change was also necessary to help the drop be effective with a ‘Mech in water (since the wheeled TGRs couldn’t drop into the water. Likewise, the change of transport to the Garrot helps to work with water. The Zahns and BR Minigun cycle move in formation to negate pushing damage.
If water isn’t available (like if everything is hindering for some reason, I would swap transports with the arty piece. The AA artillery stayed in due to point considerations, but the addition of the BR sprint / Fa Shih means that they can likely soften the target a little bit or stop an imminent drop.
Again the key to this army is the point defense. The nice thing is that the tank can drop on it’s own with a long range as well as being used to protect the griffin. Artillery keeps things moving / heating up.
Yes… I like this army. I just wish I had the pieces to field it. Ah well. If anyone can take this for a spin, let me know how it performs!
---------------- I still haven't gotten to run it and would love to know how it does!

I might try it.. I really dislike fah shih though ;( I might change for a JF fenrir over a Fa Shih.. It isn't worth sacrificing a unit as expensive as the fa shih to hold down for 1 click of damage. I also don't quit understand the BR Minibike.. There are lots of better 14 pts units Like the DF ATV let me take a look and try to pull units together.. My son isn't doing well sleeping right now so I might not go tonight ;(

What don't you like about Fa Shihs?
The BR Minibike is there to create a movement formation with the zahns. It has evade, which is why it is there over a DF atv.

My son was not feeling well. He was hurting after having multiple teeth removed.. I ended up not going. He kept saying go ahead and go but I really didn't feel right leaving him... The BR Minibike with just 3 clicks of life is just too fragile for me ;( I would rather take a liao.. expect it starting you down 2 points

Fa shihs are ok.. They are just pricey.. I hate losing a 26 point unit.. If you are using it to pin down a mech for a turn or two then it is pretty likely they are going to be killed. I can't see using a Fa Shih to pin down a mech to do one damage to it.. I have read about their effective uses. I have never implemented that. I like having two arty pieces. You can control where they are going then baw

I like Fa Shihs because they force my opponent to make a choice. If they know I am going to have something moving up to really hurt them, do they try to get away (with the odds against them), kill the Fa Shih (and take damage or try to scrape it off (although I almost never use them unless this isn't an option)... This could be a lot if I have A) dropped several accurate pogs, B) set up a long range formation, or C) moved an MDFAer up into range behind blocking (my favorite use).
But you are right... It is often not a great idea to lose a 23-29 point unit for 2 points of damage.

I am sure at worlds I will see some people use them magneficently.. They are hard to use.. They don't fit my style that much. I much prefer to spend that many points on another piece of arty and control my opponents movement

I myself hated Fa Shi's a long time ago, back when all I saw was the Liao one that all you guys used 2 Nationals ago. Now I own the RotS ones that I used this nationals, and they are my new best friend. My new formation that I used was:
R Fa Shi x2 R CBA x2 R Shock Trooper x2 these were in transports that moved in formation with a Shamash Recon. Vehicle. The CBA would give 18 Def with Point Defense, the Fa Shi would do its Voodoo, and the Shock Troopers did there best to capture. (Never caputred Malvina Hazen, but captured 2 Yami's)
Over all there effectiveness is awesome, I love it when my opponent tank drops, then I break formation to send one to base the transport and tank. One guy almost gave up because of that one.
Overall, Fa Shi's get a B for me.

Hmm I haven't faced too many or used any. They are a lot of points and fairly easy to terminate! I do see ways they could be used real effectively though. It will be interesting to see them used. (I Hope I just don't get suprised by them at Worlds ) baw

I didn't face a single army using them at nationals. As far as I know, Warlord was one of the only people packing them.

I think the cost makes them a little difficult to use. I also don't understand all this stuff with Grapple on a mech... (Light especially) ok.. I am going to hold you so you can pound the stuffings out of me!
