Just wondered what the views were out there on the best type of drop to use these days?
I've been looking at some of the options and have come up with some starter builds:
Repair Drop
Saxon with a Combat Tech. SW Attack APC with a Combat Tech.
Arty Drop
Bishop with 2 HS TTLs and 1 suppoting inf (10 inch range to make firing formation such as WH CBA, WH PAL or HS Angerona).
Inf Drop
Bishop with Elite TBA and 2 WH CBA. WH CBA get to their sweet spot when they activate their JJs on the drop. Gives 2 pulse or 2 arm piercing at 10 inch range.
Tank Drop
Cheap option would be for SC R10 with SC Enyo. AV is better than an unsupported Kelswa. Short range but R10 can stand up to the Twins. The DF Tokugawa is also up there. If you get the Merc FP to play, the Merc Skanda has the range and hopefully the target has a lowered defence. If only the SC Skanda had a decent AV...
WH R10 with WH Kelswa (running on salt flats) gives best drop range but its unlikely that Kelswa will have support. I'm not sold on the toughness of these new Kelswas - toe to toe with the FP ones, they struggle to get past the 24 DVs.
Support for a Tank Drop
Infiltrated/dropped Merc/Highlander Sniper Teams or use of the ROTS/Liao SA. I don't think this has changed much except for the cost/relative effectiveness of the transports and the fact that cheap command units are no longer in play.
Any thoughts?

Tokugawa is good and interesting. The SC Enyo is nice also. I like arty drop but they are useless against the twins. repair is a nice option. I don't really like the whole concept of tank drop. I use it when I have to. You have covered most of the options. The tokugawa has lots of of niceness about it but the single use hurts some. Homing beacon has tons of uses though.

Just wondered what the views were out there on the best type of drop to use these days? I've been looking at some of the options and have come up with some starter builds: These look good to me. Only a couple of additions / notes: I like these especially in a 2 cap drop with a low defense PD unit to make the repair even easier on big mechs. Definitely effective! I haven't gotten a definitive answer as to whether or not dropping the WH CBAs from cruising will prime them. Southpaw was checking with the PTB on that. Still, this is my favorite drop of all time. All good drops. For my money, the best is the Merc Kelswa. And let's not forget that closely placed straight blocking terrain is a tank/formation dropper's best friend. Z

Salt flats is only good for one battle. But it is nice Truth be told.. I don't care for Tank Dropping!

Here's a good analogy for the SAT:
Zxqueb : drops :: Baw : artillery

I have a question though Zxqueb. Isn't artillery generally considered the counter to Drops?

"No. The people who think that haven't played against me. "
Err.....I know of one game where arty pretty much kept your drops at bay (with the exception of 'the most brilliant MW move ever') ;D
Arty used to give drops fits when there were 2 point pieces auto-healing pieces that infiltrated and tied up the drops. Now atvs are too expensive for that role.

So much for talking smack.
I suck. Arty rules me.

I'd just want to add that I'm now favouring the Enyo over the Kelswa. The Twins can take out most transports in either 1 shot or following a charge/break/repair attack. The Kelswa is too many points to loose for my liking.
TD range against the Twins isn't an issue as they outrange you anyhow. However, once they're run in and shot at 1 target, any surviving Enyo has a good chance of dropping in range of the Twins. An AV of 9IT is better than 10 and pulse is a great weapon against the Twins.

No. The people who think that haven't played against me. Z True I have never played against you but Arty. is the counter to drop. I think so and if you play a drop and I play arty I would show you... Also I prefer inf. drop myself. In 600 I am experimenting with drop armys next to the twins. Regards E130

@elite I was just tormenting Zxqueb a little and he was reacting! I got Jonah levin in mail last night.. My son is scary at times.. The first words out of his mouth were.. Can I play Jonah and Twins in 600pts.. It scared me for a second but then I realized.. NO YOU CANT YAY! Just to make you happy I played a double drop in the last scenario.. DF Tokugawa and a WH Kelswa. It worked really well since both of my opponents were playing assault mech heavy armies.
