I played a really, really terrible 3 mech army at an unrestricted last night. But even though I lost every game (No, I don't want to talk about it), I came to really like Thumper. He is not a bad little mech if properly supported.
Consider:
Thumper + pilot
Bishop Kelswa
Bishop Infantry drop
Centaurs or TTLs
Filler to have basers or a move formation with the arty.
In 450, you can drop with both the kelswa + formation, fire and potentially still get 2 more orders from your mech. With recon, it can move for free and get a 50% chance of triggering a fire order that does not come from your order pool. It's not a bad little army and works more regularly than command. You can always get a net 4 orders and 50% of the time you can get 5.
He's not a twin, but he's potentially really good if the twins get what they deserve (a nerfing) !

I agree if they nerf the twins (like they should) then this might be a very interesting unit. Are you sure you don't want to tell us about the games? I guess we will have to wait for Southpaw to give us the lowdown

The army I ran was phellan + evade, Thumper + his pilot, quantum + a 1/1/1 pilot. I didn't hit zellbringen over two games, and barely hit anything in combat. It was bad. Both opponents brought a Scourge. Heavyarms brought the RotS version (Plus the +1attack FP) + Dagmar + decoy as well as a kelswa drop, ATVs and a combat tech. X-sythe brought the HK version (plus the +1 damage FP) + scores and scores of infantry. The highlight was in the game with x-sythe when he DFAed thumper for 7 or 8. Ouch.
It was not pretty. But I did find out that I liked thumper, so it wasn't a total loss. And ultimately that's what unrestricteds are for... Research!

Quantam with Scott graves is good I really don't care for it without. It is good try out ideas and I hate when the dice betray you and ruin the whole test though! I still can't play Mason Dunne to this day!

I still can't play Mason Dunne to this day! Really? Mason was the only piece back in the day that ever let me hit anything!

I was thinking of combining Thumper with Kuro Ha. Give Thumper grapple to stop GCBR and it will also give Kuro Ha some protection (esp if she's fitted with Ablative Armour). Let's say Kuro Ha is piloted by Tomark as a "Born Leader" and you take a WH R10 + cheap drop. This would give you a recon drop by the R10 (free), recon move for Thumper (free), possibly followed by a second (free), a move for Tomark (strike 1) and an order for the dropped vehicle/inf (free). So far, that's 5 actions for 1 order. I doubt if Tomark's ability would allow you to formation fire - nice if it does though!
Who needs the Twins..!

I played Kuro Ha during this month's scenario. She is pretty decent. She did remarkably better than I thought. She actually took down a Solitude! (Player missed one critical roll and that made the difference)
Born Leader is awesome on Kuro Ha. It really helps those drops out!
