So here's the deal. Having gotten permission from Mrs C (albeit reluctant and begrudging) to go over to Holland on the 15-17 Sep to view the MARKET GARDEN commemorations (the C130 aircraft being used for the Para drop are from my airbase in the UK), I managed to sneak in a meeting/game time with Elite, Brinxter and Ian (Ian is from Arnhem). Out of the blue comes the Belgian WK Celebration Day on the 17th. I then find out that its in a town thats on the way back to my French ferry port... The event is 600 points unrestricted with no SA's/PCC's/FP's or MC's. Is this a chance to test out the old school or is it a chance to give the new stuff a run out. I think its the latter. I'll be going with Tom (13) and Joe (10), so I need 3 armies. I've got 2 so far... Little Joe's Hades Hermes (2/0/0) Moros (0/2/0) It gives him the best heat dial, a "fast" Ares with good targetting that can also make use of Homing Beacon further down the dial. Next One - Probably Dad's Seka's Pride De Jesus Decoy BR Soli Graves BR Recruit Decoy ROTS (or CNC) Bishop 3 x BR TGRs 2 x HK CTs 4 x Liao ATVs I need a third army and am toying with LE Jack and a ballistic shooter. It may well be Alpha - hopefully Elite will show me how to use her on the Saturday . It looks like being a great event and hopefully there will be a good bunch there. Anyone (esp you Gencon crew) got any good ideas/suggestions, I'd be more than happy to pinch your ideas and pretend they were mine take them onboard

The Battlemaster at one of my closest venues has been letting his 7-year-old run an Ares at 600-point games. That's really too much firepower for someone so young!

Hmmm There are so many options.. A question about your army.. The bishops are nice but what about a merc zahn. Lots cheaper and a comparable piece. Ok... For Tom, There is the every popular Dual Nova cats with Hyperlaser I am trying to remember what your son liked playing. There is always Solitude. He made appearances at Worlds Post what kind of units he likes using Also look at the Top 8 armies.

Rots bishop is far, far superior to the M zahn. Zahn salvages in 5 clicks, Bishop gets 2 more clicks of active use... That's importatnt when most playable pieces are capable of 5 damage. Plus, the bishop can start in the air, protecting it from being based!
+9 points gives it a LOT of functionality, IMO.

The other thing that you left out is the defense of the Zahn 22 defense vs 18 (or 19). It makes me very afraid to put the bishops up high. They become way too easy a target. Also the Zahn as one click of evade for breakaway! The Zahn does have the minus of no water travel also though. I think it is comparable to the Bishop and actually superior in some situations

I did look through the Zahns and was worried that not all of them can take a hit from an Ares without salavaging.
If the Ares can move, say, 6 and assault 17, then chances are it will get to the Zahn (if it can see it!) before the Zahn drops.
That said, its DV does give the Zahn good protection against support troops and inf.
I'd take either and its one of those choices you tend to have to make when the calcualtor tells you you're over on points...

I'll have to put a hold on this thread - the Belgian hosts are still deciding on the format... I'll let you know when there's any news.

OK, off to Holland tomorrow and then Belgium on Sunday for the WK Celebration Day.
No Ares so it looks like we'll take a selection of armies along:
Seka/Decoy + BR Soli/Decoy RHD Kodiak + Arty Alpha + TTLs + Support Black Rose/Findlay/ECM Suite + Merc Forestry B DF/HK army with Kaze and D1 Schmitt.
Hopefully, we'll get to test some of these on the Saturday with Brinxter, Elite and Ian and then down-size from there. I really don't want to take a Seka RHDM army but the rules and limits imposed do point that way.
I do quite like the Black Rose - the Merc Forestry Mech is an odd one but for just over 80 points, it may do well as a support piece.
Hope to come back with battle reports and photos as well as a Podcast interview with the Worlds Fellowship Winner...
