I'll have to look at some of the Uniques on these lists to see if their pilot abilities make up for deficiencies elsewhere. I was just about to point out that Peacemaker's pilot ability allows it to AO at a range of 22 inches. Only 3 damage, but still . . . Thanks for the reminder - I'd forgotten about Pilot Abilities ( ). Not every correct pilot can boast the 2-2-1 stats of De Jesus. for that reason, I discounted anything that only had an AV of 1. There are a few out there that will give very similar AO ranges as well as solid AVs. Spot Anubis - Sefu Torrenson (1-2-1). Gets to fire back at an opponent if they target you. May be useful if someone's having a go at indirect fire and you can use Julz to see through the blocking (27pts). Warwolf Reaver - Nikki Rathingy (1-2-1). Can use her AAMS to reduce damage by 1 on a roll of 2-4 or by 2 (to a min of 0) on a roll of 5 or 6 (45pts). Tremor Thor - Reo Jones (0-2-1). Gives a token to any inf or vehicles within 3 inches of a target that you hit (48pts). Buzzkill - Jason Buyaki (0-2-0). Gives a token to a vehicle or inf or a click of heat to a mech (that already has a token). Gives you the ability to shoot ballistic through blocking and put heat on a mech (55pts). Not sure if any of these abilities are worth the cost but they do add another dimension to an already powerful set up.

I've had some time now to look back on the Euro Event and have been thinking about some of the builds. Hammerfall made his mark but I was wondering if Vengeance Vulture could mimic this build:
Vengeance/Vasquez/IT Vixen/Graves/Repair Up to 6 assorted BA BR FP BR Merc Contract
The Vulture has a 24DV and a 12IT attack. It lacks Hammerfall's range but has a higher DV and a better attack (with IT) and is just as repairable. Instead of IT, there's always Decoy or even SU Evade.
Although light swarms didn't do well, I do like the look of the WH Vixen and thought that this would make an interesting foursome:
WH Vixen/Kelly/IT WH Vixen/Gloria/IT WH Vixen/Fortuna/APM WH Vixen/Carrot
Only 4 mechs, but it gives you 4 first strike pieces if you get to be player 1. I know it will struggle against a lot of builds, but it has the potential to KO any unarmoured mechs (6 from the first 2 shots, 9 from the APM and a further 3 from Carrot will make people's eyes water - especially if they haven't even moved yet!).

I don't remember a Vulture named Vengeance . . . I thought that was a Clan Wolf Solitaire piece?

I don't remember a Vulture named Vengeance . . . I thought that was a Clan Wolf Solitaire piece? Ah - that's because I meant to say Emperor Vulture - oops!

You know, I've had a hard time using Emperor, to be honest about it. The defense, repairability, and attack value are all great . . . but then there's the weapons range. I did have fun using Hyperlaser on it once, but I doubt that I would trust it in a serious match.
Maybe with the SU Evade, you can occasionally boost the defense into the 26 range, or 27 if you can find hindering. Then repair back from the SU damage. Worth a shot anyway.
