I spent this past weekend at BASHcon, the Convention put on yearly by the University of Toledo's gaming club. It was a good time, and I spent the whole weekend playing Classic Battletech. I've never played CBT before, and it was great fun. I just wanted to see if anyone else around here has played CBT, or if anyone plays on a regular basis.

I played so much Battletech in high school. I wasn't much for the mechs that you got from the TROs, but I LOVED designing my own. It's a good system, although it takes a bit longer to play and has less option for solid combined arms than MW. As far as playing on a regular basis, I get far more enjoyment from the clicky version.

I think that CBT actually has more luck involved than MW. OK, I hit you with my LRM 20, now let's see how many missiles hit, OK, 13 missiles hit, now let's roll to see where they hit (in groups of five)... So, if I HAD to pick one game, I'd stick to MW, but since I don't have to chose, CBT is a fun diversion.

I agree, but everytime I say that it is less about tactics and more about luck than the clicky game, I get anger from the CBTers.

I can't tell you how many times a head shot or a Center Torso Crit has changed the battle in Btech! My all time favorite Computer game was the Activision Mechwarrior game.. IT was just AWESOME with random battles and all BTECH lost it when you have to have 5 foot battlefields just to represent the range of the new weapons!

bah.. I don't think it would take 30 mins... We walked by a game of Battletech.. I hadn't played in about 8 years.. My son was interested because he hadn't played.. They were resolving LRM 20's. I heard someone say "9" hit location.. He started looking for chart " I said LEFT LEG your in the front " You can crank through combat fairly quickly in Btech if you keep moving. The biggest issue is having 5-10 people playing all with different plans.

That sort of thing has a tendency to stick with you. I played for a bit at Origins 2004 and was amazed at how fast it came back!

I think that I played it so much that it will be stuck in my head for a long long time!
