ORIGINS On Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Origins, WizKids was proud to host the first-ever Battlestar Galactica CCG “Hot Shot” event. The event was invitation-only, with the invitations being handed out to players who had won one of the ongoing Sealed events held over the previous three days. Players faced off against part of WizKids’ Battlestar Galactica CCG team: Matt Robinson, Chuck Kallenbach, Julie Haehn, and Dawn Roscoe.
To add to the challenge, the format was Booster Draft, which would test the players’ deckbuilding skills. The players were split into drafting pods, and then WizKids staffers were added to each pod, whereupon each participant was given five Boosters for drafting. The predominant strategy, likely honed in previous Sealed events, was to make the most finely tuned deck possible (single-resource decks were ideal), and drafters often passed foil rare cards for commons that fit their deck themes.
During the tournament, the deckbuilding and play skill of the players were clear, and the games were very close. The final pitted WizKids staffer Julie Haehn against David Maruscak. After a quick and merciless beat down, Julie claimed the title, but David walked away with the prize.

And you know what, its not.
We played a 3 round tournament with the players we had. I went 3-0 not losing 1 game in any match. After round 3 I asked Ken how many more rounds we had and he said none, simply because even if I lost 0-2 in the next match no would could catch my record. So, since the tournament was over after the third round Ken told me the tournament was over and to "stick around". I left for 5 minutes (after dispatching my round 3 opponent in under 15 minutes in 2 games.)
I came back and Julie was done in her match. She went 3-0, but her record was not as good on Matches won, losing 1 in all her rounds, plus her strength of schedule wasn't as good. And, since they didn't want the Hotshot to be a wizkids employee, they weren't forcing a fourth round anyways. When I came back Julie wanted to play just to see how well my deck was and to see if she could have beat me. There was only 10 minutes left in the round at that point so we just played a 1 game match. We both played dudes, but she hit a ship early on that I had no answer for, that just kept hitting me for 2. Each turn and I believe the game ended something like 0 to 4 her victory.
When the game was over we were both happy and I assumed everything was fine. Ken and Dawn made their jokes that I wasn't the Hotshot because Julie beat me. Well, she beat in a game. 1 game after the tournament was essentially concluded.
The game was not a swift beatdown, it was very close on both sides. Dawn proclaims Julie to be the champ. Woo hoo. We played a game and that changes the end tournament results, doubtful. I find it funny that they would say that she was the Hotshot, considering they were trying to vear away from an employee getting the title and prize. But whatever, I was still the best player there, and I'm still good at the game, whether or not it will be here next year. If they want to run there mouths about it I'll laugh too.
Its just awesome that they couldn't spell my name right, ever.

Yeah, because you can believe everything that a wizkids employee says.
Oh wait, Mage Knight cancelled?!
...did I just that out loud.
