Well, my Battlelore has arrived today. Can I convince Mrs C that I need to get a feel for the game well before 25 Dec? I could always re-package it and wrap it up for Christmas Day and look suprised when I open it... Did you crack this open? If so, how was it? No such luck (yet). The day the parcel arrived was the same day that my wife's school were notified of a government inspection. That's now over, so I think I'll have to convince her that I need to look over the contents. The BattleLore Forums have said that there are some issues with the soft plastic and the lances/some of the bases. There are also people who are going to paint their figures - all 300 and something!!! By the way, any Carcassonne players out there - Games Quarterly #11 has 12 new tiles as a freebie.

It's awesome...It's Memoir '44 (the game you played at Gen Con instead of practicing for worlds ;D ) . However being set in the medieval timeframe, the mechanics have been adjusted to encourage Melee fighting and the maintaining of battlelines. There are also fantasy rules, so you can introduce monstrous armies and the usual fantasy races. It's the deepest game to come out of the Command and colors system...I can't wait to get my grubby little paws on it.

I will have to go and pick up the Games Quarterly. Carcossonne is an interesting game. Not any combat for me put it does some nice planning elements to it.
I haven't played Memoir '44 but it looked like an interesting game. I am going to have to wait for a convention to try and give it a test!

I have managed to prize the box open but the game itself is sellophane wrapped - still working on that one...
There are 2 promo figures inside - both look great. The Giant's pose is excellent and the Earth thingy is also very well animated. Both come with a couple of cards and a monster banner. If they were hard plastic, then they would look very nice painted up, but the fact that the're soft plastic will stop me from having a go.

Just took delivery of the AT43 Boxed Set - WOW!!!
The pre-paints are amazing. I thought I'd have to touch them up and add some shading and highlights but no need. I'd be happy if I could paint to this standard - let alone expect it from a manafacturer.
The game rules are basic enough but pretty playable - an advanced set is on its way. The rest of the components are also high quality (terrain, cards, battlemap).
I did see some Battlefield Evo figures the other week. They were poor - more like toy soldiers than gaming figures. Next to AT43, these look amateurish.
Good job that MW is in abayance for a year - I'd be skint with all these games around.

I've looked in AT43's box. You're right-- the models are outstanding. Could you give a run down on how it plays?

I've looked in AT43's box. You're right-- the models are outstanding. Could you give a run down on how it plays? Z No game played yet but the intro set is pretty simple. 6 scenarios, each one introduces new mechanics and rules until you've got all the figures and both walkers on the map. Early scenarios have no more than 3-4 figures per side. Figures must be within 2.5cm for cohesion, each unit has a "leader" figure (who acts as a focal point for LOS and LOF and cohesion). This figure, if shot, re-spawns elsewhere in the squad. Movement is either move/shoot or shoot/move or rush and no shoot. Firing is by range and accuracy with damage added in once you've hit. Most figures die after 1 shot - the war walkers can take more damage and are harder to kill. They also get multiple weapons. Both sides also get a couple of rocket launcher/hvy weapons figures. There are cards with unit stats on and a very comprehensive shooting/damage table. The advanced rules look like they'll have accuracy of shooting, morale, toughness etc brought in. The expansion sets feature the same troop types but with interchangeable heads and weapons. New unit types are out in March. The walkers are very impressive and are "size 3" out of a possible 5 - which means that the size 5 pieces are going to be very impressive. Humans and aliens are size 1. The characteristics are that the humans are good at shooting at long ranges but die very quickly when the aliens get into close combat. Hopefully this weekend will be game 1...
