Looks to be a great few months ahead for gaming systems. I'm getting as much info as I can on these 3:
Star Wars Starship Battles - CMG, Nov 06(?), probably 1 release only, some issues with scalability of the fighters versus capital ships.
BattleLore - Fantasy version from the company that brought you Memoir 44, good looking components, historical possibilities, should play as a "light" game with some good twists.
Battlefield Evolution - Ultra Modern pre-painted expansion from Mongoose based on Starship Troopers, releases Jan 07, Brits, USMC, Arab Militia and Chinese troops, tanks and helos in 28mm.
If MW does fall by the wayside, there will be plenty of other games to take its place. Anyone else picking up on other releases?

Star Wars Starship Battles would be the one that would draw my interest but I think I would take a BIG break from Minis if MW were to fall to the wayside. I am out of space in the house

Looks to be a great few months ahead for gaming systems. I'm getting as much info as I can on these 3: Star Wars Starship Battles - CMG, Nov 06(?), probably 1 release only, some issues with scalability of the fighters versus capital ships. It's not a scalability (small point battles to large point battles) problem in having them fight each other, the controversy is actual scale of the models. The fighter models are to scale with each other but compared to the capital ships they are too large (or small depending on your point of view ) For game play info go here: www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=starwars/article/SBrulebookBattleLore - Fantasy version from the company that brought you Memoir 44, good looking components, historical possibilities, should play as a "light" game with some good twists. I've been watching this one for a while. I am a huge Command and colors fan (Memior '44, Battle Cry, C&C Ancients), just ask Zxqueb, I held him at gunpoint and made him play Memoir until 3:00 in the morning at Gen Con on Friday night, so you all can thank me for sleep depriving theMechwarrior Juggernaut. This looks to be the best game of the series and I am really looking forward to it. Battlefield Evolution - Ultra Modern pre-painted expansion from Mongoose based on Starship Troopers, releases Jan 07, Brits, USMC, Arab Militia and Chinese troops, tanks and helos in 28mm. This looks interesting, although I am not sure when I would have time to play it... One nice thing, this is not a randomized collectible game, but simply a miniature game with pre-painted army boxes, you know exactly what you are getting when you buy, how's that for a change of pace! On a related note, they are also re-releasing the starship troopers miniature game with fully pre-painted army boxes, I could be tempted to at least try it, I love smashing Bugs! If MW does fall by the wayside, there will be plenty of other games to take its place. Anyone else picking up on other releases? If ? -Vladd

There's also seems to be a MarvelScape version of Heroscape on the horizon with the usual collection of Superheroes making an appearance - I don't think they've dismissed a HaloScape game either.
The Star Wars Starship guide does seem to make the scale relationship between the fighters and capitol ships a bit odd to say the least. Then again, even the Babylon 5 "pinhead" size fighters are probably still too big so perhaps they never stod a chance.
Battlelore does seem to be getting a lot more detailed as they release more info and its these discrete areas of the rules that really give these type of games a nice edge or fell to them.

Marvelscape looks pretty awesome. Maybe someone can do something with it since Wizkids turned Heroclix into sh*te.

Not to mention that the heroscape system of cards + figures means they can more accurately describe a superhero's powers. It'll definately be better than the abstraction / melding of several powers that heroclix uses.

I just hope they have knockback rules...Nothing says Superhero like backhanding a guy through a brick wall! One thing I do wonder about is how they are going to be costed. The design team has stated that they are NOT compatible with vanilla heroscape, in that they are not being balanced nor playtested against the normal Heroscape. This leads me to believe that they will be point costed as normal HS figs and only have normal stats (ie. 4 attack 5 defense 4 life). While its all good for comparing one Super to another, If you play them in a normal Heroscape game you will probably see things like the silver surfer being taken out by squad of revolutionary riflemen. I hope that they go ahead and make the supers cost 500 points and up so they scale with the normal game, but that's probably just wishful thinking. House rules here we come! BTW If anyone wants more info on Memoir 1444 go here: blog.battlelore.com/2006/09/08/welcome/en/I like how the system is set up so you can either play fantasy or recreate medieval historical battles by leaving those elements out.

Thanks for the link - I've pre-ordered my copy. Its free postage in Europe which is a real bonus for such a "busy" box of stuff.
There's also a promo figure offer available with the pre-order and news of a promo that will be given away as part of a demo.

First of all, the good news about Battle Lore is that any pre-order seems to get a copy of each LE Creature (ie 1 Hill Giant and 1 Earth Elemental). No need to hunt down a Demo to get the latter.
The bad news refers to SW Starship Battles. I've just seen a UK retailer publish their prices and its going to be £30 for the starter set and £80 for 6 boosters. The secondary market is going to LOVE this game.
That is way more expensive than I first thought - I was hoping for around the £100 mark for a case of 12 boosters. A thread on the WOTC Site talking about the first Sneak Peak also has a picture of some other models in the series and they don't look half as good as those used by WOTC on the promo shots.
Worrying signs for a game I really wanted to get into.

The bad news is you only get that deal in Europe. In the states we only get the Hill Giant, not the Earth Elemental. The other bad news is that the game costs $80.00 to pre-order and get the hill giant. All the preorders for online vendors are at $49.00 with $8-$10 shipping. I don't think I want to pay $21.00 for a promo fig, I'll be looking on e-bay for it!
As for Star Wars, Eghads...This could be the first pre-painted miniatures game in history where the tiny figures have more detail and better paint jobs than the Huge Figures. Good thing its Star Wars, I'm genetically disposed to by Star Wars stuff so I suppose I'll still have to buy it ;D . It's $40 for a starter here and $22.00 for a booster. Thankfully there are no ultra rares so it shouldn't be terribly hard to collect, unlike the skirmish game. I might end up just using the miniatures to play Silent Death, which already has Star Wars Mods published in Star Wars Gamer/Insider.

Well, BattleLore is looking better with every preview - can't wait for that one to arrive.
Battlefield Evolution from Mongoose has some VERY impressive infantry sets (pre-painted ultramodern and you know what's in each box). However, the photos of the tanks seem to either highlight a problem with the scale or demonstrate that if you stick a 30mm figure onto a thick GW-style slotta base, it ends up looking as tall as a main battle tank! I can see me taking a copy of the rules but using my own painted minis for this game - never mind, Mongoose's HQ is about 15 miles from my house.
Star Wars Starfleet Battles continues to sneak-peak. Still not sure about the scale and some of the starfighters seem to be as powerful as a capital ship. Not enough of the rules out yet but this is a pricey release, so it will have to be a good one. I think I'd rather buy into metal die casts and use some other rules. The Class 3 and 4 (ie smaller) ships look OK next to one another. Class 2 and especialy Class 1 ships (Star Destroyers and Super Star Destroyers) are so badly out of scale though.
Finally, MarvelScape should be previewing soon. I think the terrain is compatible with Heroscape, but I'm not sure about the rules. I think early 2007 is the best bet for this one. I'm still hoping for HaloScape...

Well, my Battlelore has arrived today. Can I convince Mrs C that I need to get a feel for the game well before 25 Dec? I could always re-package it and wrap it up for Christmas Day and look suprised when I open it...
I've got Joe some SW Starfleet stuff - again for Christmas Day.
One of the guys down the local club Demos for Rackham and he now has a copy of AT43 which I'm trying to get a look at.
I'll need to spend some off my ill-gotten gains on figures seeing as the MW market is drying up in 2007.
All in all, I'll still keep playing MW but I can't see Solaris taking any of my money and unless the Falcons get a bit of loving as part of an Action Pack, then MW will be a no-cost option this year.

I'm intending on picking up the Chinese and British, possibly some USMC units as well. I'm looking forward to this game. I'll probably be playing the "simplified" rules in the unit boxes to introduce wargaming to my daughter, as she was a bit young when MW:DA wasn't so much about remembering what every other unit in the game could do. Looks to be a great few months ahead for gaming systems. I'm getting as much info as I can on these 3: [ Battlefield Evolution - Ultra Modern pre-painted expansion from Mongoose based on Starship Troopers, releases Jan 07, Brits, USMC, Arab Militia and Chinese troops, tanks and helos in 28mm.

Hmm prepainted? It sounds interesting. I probably will look at this game down the road, I think I will take a much longer look at things before I get overwhelmed by a mini game again.
