A friend of mine mentioned this piece to me today. Carrot lets you negate an opposing pilot ability, if you have clear line-of-fire at the beginning of your turn. My friend told me that this piece was really popular at his regular venues.
I can see the obvious strength of this ability, but the disadvantage of clear line-of-fire seems like a pretty big weakness to me. Can't an opponent just hide his Mech behind blocking, then come around on an assault order? I'm thinking especially of Jack w/ LE Julie (who would tend to hide behind blocking anyway) and Kuro Ha w/ Into the Breach Katana (who would have enough AO range to come around the terrain).
I wanted to hear other player's thoughts/experience with this piece.

Well I hardly use pilot abilities anyway I think they tend to cost to much.
And yes if it could cancel out LE Julie it would may be worth it. But LOF needs to be clear then so I dont know.
LEJulz and Zellbringen ar the 2 you want to maybe cancel the rest doesnt realy bother me much. And agianst those i doubt it will work.
I have no expiereance and vs me it wont do much good as I rarely use pilot abilities anyway.
So call me lack luster on the subject

I'm hoping to use Magister in a forthcoming unrestricted (one light, one medium, one heavy and 1 assault plus one other of any class). There is no points limit but it must be faction pure (max of 2 gunslingers).
The Magister looks to be the best light out there but Carrot's lack of defence does seem to take away from the fact that the evade/decoy combo is just crying out for a +2 defence pilot.
Like Elite says, the fact that his ability means you have to end up in someone's sights could lead to a quick game for Mr Carrot and his short-dialled mech.
I'd prefer Scott Graves for a pilot but then there's the question of what gear to put on? The mech is already expensive, so can you afford to fit anything? Maybe some RISC gear or electronic camo?

Well, with no point limit . . . I'd say go for broke. Maybe that Patchwork Armor card, which is Hardened half the time and Heavy half the time?

My favorite setups is: Magister - Kelly - APM For a 12IT, 12" move 3-9 dmg Ok, so it costs 189 points?
