Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading the write up on the Alabama State Event. My Realms account is really messed up at the moment, so I thought I pass on my thanks on this, far more esteemed, MW site.
Does every US State do this? Sounds a great idea - especially with the Worlds going "Invitational." I would imagine the geography in the States would mean one of your State Championships with 16 players would equate to many of the European "National" events.
By the way - good skills to get your photo "whited out" so much, helps to preserve anonymity for the Worlds...who is that masked man?

hehee --- are any of you non us mechwarriors going to worlds this year? Z Difficult to tell. I think the UK winner has, in previous years, received some cash towards the trip but there's still a personal contribution to be had. I'm not sure if the other European countries get any allowance. Speaking to some of the guys at Hannover, the biggest issue seemed to be a lot of expense to go and play SOLARIS. SOLARIS seems to be the issue at stake and I'm not hopeful about the numbers who will make the journey.

Well, the solaris rules will be posted next month, so we will see how they play. That may make the decision for a lot of people.

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading the write up on the Alabama State Event. My Realms account is really messed up at the moment, so I thought I pass on my thanks on this, far more esteemed, MW site. Thanks man! The tournament was a blast, and I had fun writing the article as well. Maybe WizKids will ask me to come do a write-up at GenCon? As far as I know, this was the first State Championship held. I know that Michigan had a Scrubby Championship - but I'm not sure how many attended or what the format was. There were also several challenges made between Clan Ninja Beaver of Oregon and the WizKids staff, and with the California players next door. We were missing several players too - I think we could have had as many as 30 players if schedules had worked out. I can name 4 competitive players who missed it, as well as 12 or so less competitive types. Completey unintentional bonus, believe me! We are working on some unofficial pilot cards, just for our own amusement. I may post pics of those when they're finished. As for Worlds attendance: I noticed that Origins had a number of Storyline events scheduled to run all weekend long. I think Jonas mentioned that they will be doing the same thing at GenCon. Hopefully, they will make this a big deal, with a real goal to play for. Something more than deciding who the Ares attacks, and whether Bannson lives or dies. The Classic Battletech people will be running some Jihad events with deep ramifications on Friday and Saturday. If WizKids fails to deliver, I may be found at that table. Also hoping that Zxqueb (or someone) will run a Scrubby Match for us. My merc forces painted in Clan Blood Spirit colors need some playing time . . .

I tried to get someone to do it for Origins since I won't be there, but so far there were no takers. I'll have to think on Gencon- My schedule is already pretty full and we won't be pulling in until LATE wednesday night.

I thought it was usually held on Thursday night. Or was that at Origins, not GenCon?

Usually held at origins on Wednesday night. Generally Wizkids has envoy appreciation night on Thursdays of a con. We have true dungeon tickets for friday night and saturday dreamblade will go very late if last year was an indication.

I am definetly seeing a trend of "Solaris is cool but its not MW" from ALOT of worlds players. I doesn't really seem that if they want MW to continue the best way is to do everything that drives there players away. When most of your dedicated worlds players say that Solaris isn't making them make the trip then you should reconsider things.

To be fair, the rules aren't out yet, so it's hard to say how it will be.
