NC Nova Cat ^^ 212 Stephen P. Cheapenhoffer 12 Pilot recruit 5 Heavy Command 4 DF Garrot 33 2x DF Mortar Squads 24 NC Thunderbird BA ^^^ 23 DF Angerona BA 18 2x SC PAL Suit 32 DF Sylph BA 30 SC Sylph BA 26 DF/SC Situational Alliance 30
450
This is the Nova Cat with 16" TSEMP and Heavy Armor which will sit behind blocking, probably an H somewhere up the board, in range of enemy arty if there is any.
The mortar squads and the Thunderbird are in the Garrot which will move and drop on the first turn, allowing the mortars to drop pogs at anything that moved out of the opponent's DV. Second turn they can/will move to block off the NC's rear.
When they move up, it allows the Angerona BA and PALs to push-move into the rear arc of the Garrot for a pick up next turn, ready for a push/pulse drop on turn four. This formation does not fear much, as the Angerona's Point Defense couples with the PAL's Evade for a tough formation to crack. The Garrot can pick-up move on turn 3 and push/drop on turn 4 up to 22" from my DV. They would be under any arty range and are now able to go for VC 3 or tie up arty or whatever.
What do you think? Especially let me know what cards she could bring with this and why.
PC out.

It's strong -- I'd bring Perfect day and urban or whatever cancels jungle/barrens. I'd maybe drop a sylph and/or the mortars (since DF mortars are kind of weak) to give a long(er) range formation drop to the mech, but that's because I don't like relying on rolling dice too much.
My $.02,

A couple of concerns.. There are only 3 SC units in the army. When they get destroyed your Alliance no longer works.
Perfect day (always) and urban are great. Hmm there are some mission cards that might be good also.
I see what Zxqueb is saying about the DF Mortars but I think she needs some type of artillery to limit opponents actions. Although it could be argued that there isn't going to be a lot of hiding going on because of the Nova Cats range.
Hmmm As far as mission cards.. I sort of like Control the city for this army! The opponent will probably not play a lot of blocking and you can have one your side.
I do agree emphatically with Zxqueb about needing a longer ranger formation. What is she going to do against the RHDM. I am not on hoping for good rolls.

The army did see play that week. I played it instead of the gf, because we didn't have time during the week to go over it.
In two tournements it was 6-0 with 7 or 8 VCs. It ran just about how I described above. I was kind of banking on there being very little arty to go up against and that was the case.
Most matches I put an H in the middle, at about my walk+half speed. I would walk up then, next turn assult into it, rinse, cool, repeat.
The first turn garrot drop, then push the Angerona and PALs into rear contact worked out very well. I also found myself loading the PALs and the Thunderbird, leaving the Angerona to base the mortars and the garrot. I would have a 20+Evade Defense transport hiding behind blocking, just waiting for something to try to turn the corner. This was an awsome setup that I hadn't forseen. I kind of wish I had faced some more arty (just 2), just to see what might have happened.
baw's Chikako, double Long Tom would have creamed this, but I didn't think I was going to see that.
Overall verdict: Not as balanced as I like em. Almost a one trick pony that could be negated by any number of things. Around here it could win most tourneys until someone built specifically against it. In Ohio it could win a few, but not too many. At Nationals it could maybe go 3-2 ish.
I've been doing almost exclusively Fac Pure and SA lately. Not because I am a Fluff Ball, or because I'm out to prove something, but because in the scene around here everyone underestemates them and I see some as viable. It also gets me to look at a lot of pieces that I wouldn't usually pay attention to; to see their strengths and imagine possiblities.

Rats I was going to try and convince you to play that next time we played It is an interesting army but lots of other armies can beat it! I still think it has merit!
