Rules for this scenario can be found here: www.wizkidsgames.com/mechwarrior/mw_article.asp?cid=41021.
I know that the rules for this scenario specifically say no rules-lawyering, but if they didn't want players to plan for this scenario, why post it early on the website? And why offer the LE Warwolf as the prize?
My thinking is this: player 2 has a huge advantage. Just drop an H-shaped terrain piece around the monkey, in such a way that only you have open access to it (with the longer sides leading towards your DZ). Depending on player 1's first terrain placement, player 2 could potentially drop a long rectangle blocking piece exactly 3 inches closer to his DZ than the H-piece, creating a sort of "box" with 3-inch openings on each side.
Take Solitude, Peacemaker, and a ROTS Minigun as your army, and use the big Mechs to block the entrances to the box. Use the Minigun to move the monkey at least once in the direction of your DZ, and wait out the rest of the scenario.
This seems like a strong strategy to me. So I am immediately thinking, how would player 1 overcome that set-up? I am wondering if a very agressive approach could take down Solitude or Peacemaker inside 50 minutes, with enough time to kill the minigun and move the monkey towards player 1's DZ. Obviously, killing all of player 2's army will result in a win for player 2 if he moved the monkey at all, so care must be taken to leave something alive and out of salvage.
I was pondering the idea of Emperor, Merc Kanazuchi/Fa Shih/Salamander capture teams, and Merc Pride. Another thought was a mega-flamer army to heat the big Mechs up, and deal with infantry swarms (which most people will probably use). What do you guys think?
