Incidently, if you read my other recent new thread, you probably noticed my use of "Buford." He has an amazing damage potential. So amazing, in fact, that the combo of Buford, Lex Corpuz, and Rapid Strike triggers my "that-can't-be-legal" sub-routine in my brain. The combo works as follows: Lex's special ability allows him to double the damage he inflicts upon an enemy that he targets with a close combat attack if the attack roll plus Buford's AV exceeds the target's DV by three or more. So, since Buford has a three primary damage with up to a +2 damage on his heat dial he can effectively dish out 20 damage to a single unit (using rapid strike) or he can deal 10 damage to everything in his front arc (using the Full Strike that's on his dial). This doesn't even take into accout added damage from Crit Hits or Faction Pride cards.
That's a lot of damage! So here you see my quandry. Can this be legal? I can't figure out why it wouldn't be. Lex's ability doesn't say that he can't use it with damage SE so it should work with both Rapid Strike and Full Strike (albeit independently of each other). It also doesn't say that it can only be used once per turn which would disallow it on the second strike of a Rapid Strike.
Oh, and in case you're wondering, in the second round of the tournament I played in yesterday, I successfully used Buford to take a shut down RotS Stalking Spider from green to dead in one turn. My opponent looked at me like I was crazy when I told him to take eight damage from the first hit, but the color drained from his face when he realized that I was Rapid Striking him for another eight.
So let me know if you can figure out a way this combo would be illegal.
