Ok.. I just read the Flyer on Vanguard!
This is the kind of stuff that will make my head hurt and stop playing...
The twins are bad.. but you know they are truly only overwhelming in a competent players hand. I have seen them get stomped.
This new RISC equipment makes it a kind of game I dislike. It all comes down to a die roll.
I bought tons of stars wars mini's initially but I disliked all the Luck that played into game. It came down to lot of dice rolling.
I fear they are trying to make mechwarrior a less tactical/strategical game and more of a die rolling game.
I guess I am just venting at this point. That brochure gave me the creeps. It pointed out everything I don' t like and cheered about it.
I know when I play.. I hate seeing "good night irene" across the table from me. I remember playing against a decent player and he said.. You never let me fire at anything significant with the malice.. I hate seeing chances like that. This equipment is the kind of stuff that could make me not care about playing the game anymore..
I need to take a couple of breaths and think about it.
Ok twins have issues but RISC equipment sounds like.. it is not a matter of good strategy but lucky rolls that will win you games..
oh well I will post more later.. anyone else have any feelings on this?

Baw,
Wait and see. It's hard to say what the RISC gear does from that blurb... Blowing up blocking? How is that different than a PC? Do you have to use an order to do it? Does it hurt your own mechs? What class mech is it for?
I just can't answer these questions. I agree that more randomness is bad if that randomness works against the tactics of the game, but I could also see that some could add to the tactics depending on the effect.

You are probably correct. I will be patient I won't use gear that is destroyed on a roll of a 1 or a 6. I know I would roll it ever time! It just scares me that they are trying to make it so a new player has the same chance in his first game as people who have played for the last 3 years. it does take time and experience to pick up the tactics. I just didn't like how it read. I will hope for the best. I didn't like arty when it came out either

From the chat:
G-146 R.I.S.C. Bunker Buster - PV: 17 - Class: H - (optional) This unit may make a ranged combat attack with a blocking terrain feature as the target. Draw a line of fire to any part of the target. If the attack result is equal to or exceeds 23, remove the target from the game. Then eliminate this gear.
Doesn't seem game breaking, though I am not sure what the risk is.

You eliminate the gear.. Ie you lose 17pts of vc2. A question though is "does the person to your left get the 17 pts to vc1" I would assume so.

Yep. Not really a risk though since you know when you destroy the blocking that you'll be giving up the points. I think it's a nice piece of gear that gives you some tactical options on the cheap. It would definitely be worth it on a Shiro.

I concur it isn't really a risk.. It does cost you some points and you are "risking" something there but I do like it better than.. Roll 3 dice and score a crit hit and kill a unit!
