The new morningstars are still very costly. They have one thing that I do like. Ballistic defense is a blessing for them. At least Arty is completely destroying them quickly.
They are still too expensive too little command compared to our blessed 12 pt command unit.
Ballistic Defense makes them better. Not enough clicks of command though.
They are better but still not good enough I think.

The old adage used to be 2 command units as a minimum, preferably 3 in order to give you a good chance of securing an extra order. That means giving up 100 - 150 points on 2 or three of these.
I'm not even sure if they're that good for a draft. If you can use them to make a formation, then that actually removes one of your major catalysts for needing an extra order in the first place!
I see there are more Recon-equipped units appearing, can't tell if they're SU or not.

I wonder if at least the RD and WH versions might be useful in a draft because they have a decent damage value, and (at certain clicks) decent AVs. Maybe not especially useful, but better than having to use a piece only for ramming. . I'm not even sure if they're that good for a draft. If you can use them to make a formation, then that actually removes one of your major catalysts for needing an extra order in the first place! They are just point sinks though! Too many points too little benefit. With Recon equipped units that is like getting your free order that you really needed anyways (100% of the time)

I agree, baw. They are too expensive for what they do!

I always try to make armies easy-going with orders, so that I do not need an extra for another move. I find 450 harder to do that in though, but truthfully, I have never needed much command in my armies. I like the MorningStars though, look pretty cool. =P

Why are you guys bad mouthing morningstars?? Maybe it is because you think WAY TO CONVENTIONALLY!!!!!!!!!!! See the poblem is all you see them as is a command unit, but they are much more. They have many other practical and impractical uses. The first time I ever used a morningstar was fire power story line. It prevented the person from getting VC 3 and lured Clide Joyce into pushing. The Oni's took care of the rest. Many uses of a morning star include: rear guard VC protector offensive light tank (for cheap) with an added command bonus ;D formation builder Bait........... (my favorite) baser vc3 getter infantry killer assault tank protector vehicle/infantry cover light tank/light mech destroyer (second favorite) ;D Arty becon

You forgot the obvious ones... VC1 and VC2 provider (for your enemy) I have never even seen anyone use on in a sealed. I am sort of betting I will pull 3 during my next sealed just to make me have to play one

I also have never played a Flavio Rodiriguez. I would like to see someone put some to effective use. The best use I saw for mash vehicles was during a sealed and someone called them Rambulances

Hey now the first ever event I played in I had Flavio. Grant it I didn't know what I was doing, but the event was thanks for giving where we had to play at least 2 mechs. We then rolled to se what mech got sent away. I ended up giving Flavio and getting one- eye. The poor soul who got got fllavio ended up giving Roshac away. So flavio can screw with your opponents, I also played him in the battle of the bottom of barrel. Turns out he was house!! ;D I do have to say yes rambulances suck, because it's not worth try to repair infantry. Oh and by the way I do play morningstars and they are effective. Remember no unit is completely worthless. It depends on your play style.

I would be interesting to see someone play Morningstars. I can't quite see how they are competitive. I can figure out a use for most units but Morningstars I just don't see a lot of use! Maybe we should build an army for Worlds out of all the really less effective units.

There usually one or two reason why people can't find uses for units.
1. First is that their play style is so lock into one element that they no longer think of something or rule it to inefective for thier army and style of play.
2. The other is is the preconcieved notion that a unit/pilot/gear is in one of three chafe/playable/power piece, and can be placed there by just looking at the piece and not playing it first.
I am a personal fan of odd units/gear I like pilot abilites and love throwing togather gimicy armys. Because some where in some way a unit can and will be effective. You just don't know it yet. ;D

Well imho if i want a tank i'll shell out 90 points for a kelswa, when i want command i would like a 12 point command, i am sure as hell not going to pay 40-50 points for some wannabee tank that "could" provide me with an extra order or "possibly" damage an opposing unit.

The twelve point commands are gone ;( ALthough with the cost of units, the commands aren't needed as much and I certainly don't see spending 35+ points for a command.
