I know after an mayor event like Nats. and Worlds Fellowship you need some time to recover.
This is a pet peeve of mine but I like al your opinions on the subject.
I do hope SP will read it and take it in account.
Vanguard, by it's nature is not a good sealed/draft set. This can happen. Falcons Prey flamed as one of the worsts sets was in my opinion a good sealed/draft set. That is beside the point.
I do feel that draft by the official way is unfair.
It favours player 1 in the Draft.
After 4 years of opening boosters we all done that you get a feel for the underlying strenghts of game pieces. The differences in relative strenghts between game pieces are paramount when you have a lmited choice to built an army with.
Official draft has the following procedure.
A pod of 4 players
Player 1 with 3 boosters
Player 2 with 3 boosters
Player 3 with 3 boosters
Player 4 with 3 boosters
All players open a booster and place it in the middle leaving you with 4 Mechs+gear + 8 Vechicles + 12 infantery and on average 8 PC's/MC's.
Then player 1 opens his booster and adds that to the pool and he picks 1 piece (including gear and pilot)
In practice that means player 1 has a pick of 5 boosters.
Then player 2 adds his booster and he has 1 pick. So he chooses from 6 boosters minus the first pick.
then player 3 adds his booster and he has 1 pick. So he chooses from 7 boosters minus 2 picks.
My point is that in those first 5 boosters the odds of a "game winning" piece is the best. After it is raided the chance of a good pick drops dramatically to close to what ever you get from your own booster.
Mathimatical you favour the first player. I think you give the first player an unfair advantage.
I know from expierance that regardless of skill, most player 1 end up in the top of the tournement for draft.
please consider this as I would like a change to this format.
i understand we would like to see draft/sealed on the menu for Worlds.
My suggestions two fold :
1. Play Sealed, you are limited to your own boosters. The odds are at least equal for all players.
2 Consider "Dutch" drafting.
A pod of 4 players
Player 1 with 3 boosters
Player 2 with 3 boosters
Player 3 with 3 boosters
Player 4 with 3 boosters
Player 1 opens all his boosters and Picks 1 (or 2 before gears etc)
Then player 2 picks one until the booster contents are gone.
Then player 2 opens all his boosters same procedure.
Player 3 etc.
At least all players involved have equal chance on a good piece.
Your thoughts on the subject are welcome.
