Just got back from holiday to hear the news about Marc - what is it with this game and the Canadians? Anyway, congrats to him on his second Title and to Ian for making the final. Also to Elite for finally accepting his role in life as a Scrub as Fellowship Winner.
I hope that the rest of you enjoyed it and didn't get too badly done over on the booster pull.
So many questions:
Armies you fielded (and why?). Your opponents. Battle reports. Thoughts on the 3 days/format? Did anyone get to play the Brits? IT versus Decoy? Are those Galeforce 9 Sets worth the money? Did Brinxter find a woman? Will Elite borrow Mechtran's signature and Avatar? Make way for the Ares?
Well done on just getting there and being part of the whole shebang.
Signed
Intensely Jealous of UK.

I just got back from family vacation as well. There was more coverage over on MW Realms. The winning army (Masakari) had Seka's pride and Decoy and Jack and Decoy and some ATVs. Aiko was in Seka, so this was a RHDM sort of combo. Ian pilgrim was second, his army used one of the Galeforce9 pilots, a 221. I personally hate it when new ultrarare figures appear the day or week before a tournament, but I can't say that this was really better than any of the other 221 pilots. Ian's army was RHOM, that is to say, Heavy, Light and both with IT. There, I've pasted it in: IanPelgrim's army: CNC Nova Cat -"Lizzie" Millick -Improved Targeting WH Mjolnir -Kelly -IT ROTS Bishop -HS TTL x2 -ROTS Combat Tech CNC ATV x3
OK, here's Masakari's post on the armies used: Seka's Pride Aiko Decoy
"Jack" Night Stalker LE Julz Decoy
CNC CBA X3
CNC ATV X3
True Grit
After seeing the amount of Merc Prides being fielded, I felt that True Grit would be needed for me to conserve my incredibly high defense values. Although I didn't face a single Merc Pride army, there were three of them fielded, as well as three True Grits and the HK-Liao situational alliance.
Some of the other armies:
My first opponent played:
Yen-Lo Wang "Slam" Liao-Centrella Brawling
Kuro Ha "Into the Breach" Tomark Brawling
CNC Bishop CNC Thunderbird HK Thunderbird Liao Gnome
CNC ATV X3
CNC-HK Alliance
Zxqueb played: ROTS Bishop X2 WH Kelswa
WH CBA X2 CNC Thunderbird
HS TTL X2 HS Combat Tech
BR Solitaire x2 Scott Graves +1+1+1 Pilot RISC Pulse Module X2
IanPelgrim had the same as yesterday: CNC Nova Cat Lizzie Willick (+2+2+1, a GF9 pilot) IT
WH Mjonir Kelly IT
CNC ATV X3
ROTS Bishop HS TTL X2 HK Combat Tech
Baw and Ma-Varcon both had Merc Pride armies;
Baw had the WH Thor, WH Kelswa drop with another drop of some TGRs
Ma-Varcon had "Jack" with Beagle Probe, two Kelswa drops and some infantry
HeavyGear had Merc Pride with the WH Thor and the WH Mjolnir, I believe
Lastly I think Mir71 had Seka's Pride along with Jack and True Grit
So, there were dual light mechs, heavy/light or medium, and multiple drop armies all represented.

I just worked out that Elite will return next year as the Fellowship Winner and there will be 2 Dutch guys there from their own Nats. I recommend that the location of next year's Euro Event is kept secret from the Orange Hoarde... I see Milamber did well, was he the only German? I've always rated the Dutch and German games to be the strongest in Europe so I'm pleased that he did well.

Mike has my army right, except that I also had a RD Sylph. It was a good time at Gencon. I'll give a report before too long. Probably this weekend -- This week marks the first week back to teaching for the year. It'll be a hectic one!
The short of it for TJPandV:
Armies you fielded (and why?). -- WHY will have to wait. Your opponents.
In 150 + sealed, I brought 2 rots bishops, 2 HS TTLs and 2 WH minigun cycles. I pulled no usable pilots, a RD Huey and other assorted junk. I played elite, MarkUrsell, Ian and rylan24. I won all the games except the one against Ian.
In 300/300, I brought symetrical armies: WH anubis, 1 rots bishop, 1 HD bishop, WH tokugawa, WH CBAs, HD Angerona (I think it was -- I'll have to check later).
Played Mechthran who also brought symetrical armies. He had a WH drop and a Solitaire. I won that game, but lost to Brinxter who brought double Seka. We each made a mistake. I missed my key shot to cripple his non-primed anubis and he killed a minigun forcing me to make a rush into his kill zone to try to salvage the game.
In constructed I played: ROTS Bishop X2 WH Kelswa
WH CBA X2 CNC Thunderbird
HS TTL X2 HS Combat Tech
BR Solitaire x2 Scott Graves +1+1+1 Pilot RISC Pulse Module X2
RD sylph
True Grit
I lost a game to the italian with the HK-Liao alliance, though that one was lost to die rolls. It's just too much to ask to come back after 5 crit misses at key points in the game.
I beat Smilinmike's blitz of 3 solitaires W/ generic pilots and the SS Curiass with pilot. Won that one with all 3 VCs
I finished the day by coming up against Mark Ursell again. He was playing tank drop and there was a LOT of blocking to protect myself. It was a slow game until about 1/2 way through once our artillery had smacked each other around a bit. I blitzed close to the end basing all sorts of kelswas and locking down his army. Won that one with 3 as well.
Battle reports. More details later.
Thoughts on the 3 days/format?
I liked having Thursday to see the con.
Did anyone get to play the Brits? I very much enjoyed playing Mark -- He's a very nice guy and a good player. And his painted army was extremely cool! I didn't get to play against Wayne, but he is one funny guy!
IT versus Decoy?
IT, my 16 attack formation didn't even trigger Marc's decoy when I rolled a 6 for my first shot.
Are those Galeforce 9 Sets worth the money?
Some of the mechs are nice. $140 US dollars is too much for me for terrain that I won't use much.
Did Brinxter find a woman?
I don't believe so.
Will Elite borrow Mechtran's signature and Avatar?
Doubtful!
Make way for the Ares?
No, not as powerful as many at worlds feared.

Thanks for the report Z - hope your return to teaching isn't too much of a shock!
Those twin Solis are becoming your trademark army - I think I may run them in the Storlyine II Event. Interesting to hear that having the spare day allowed you to get around the 'Con. I felt that my time at the Worlds doing 3 days meant that I didn't really get to see a whole load of stuff - even if you're not in the top 8, you get drawn into watching the final matches.
Mark is a very nice bloke and his armies are great to look at. He's a pretty quiet guy who tends to stay away from the boards, so I hope he at least puts some of his experiences up on the UK side. We've got a meeting in Oct to have a UK Campaign Event and hopefully Mark will be there.
I can't believe BAW showed up without Chikako - is he allowed to use mechs with only 2 legs?
I agree about the terrain packs - with the exchange rate, I could get half a case for that money. Anyhow, MW isn't great on visuals (when you put it up against historical minis) and some of the play mechanics (esp VTOLs) don't lend themselves to 3-D.
Nice to see Jack in there - I can see how Med Decoy has given him a real boost - everytime I used BAP, I found that he was badly exposed.
Looks like dropping FP from the tourney scene had an impact - RD Sylphs and no Merc Kelswas.
I'm sure that the Ares will find their place in the game.
Any word on future releases beyond Gunslingers or the Solaris release for 2007?

I can't believe BAW showed up without Chikako - is he allowed to use mechs with only 2 legs? Yep, I wish I had gotten to play against Baw at the tournament. I am looking forward to hearing his impressions of worlds this year. I've said it before and I'll say it again... Jack / LE Julz is the most broken combo in the game. It's bad, Bad, BAD for the game. Yep. And dropping those brought in RISC Advanced pulse which is also absurdly powerful. Time to put that army to bed, I think! Z

Sorry I haven't been around much. Work has me running! My son's birthday was yesterday. He goes to surgery tomorrow. I wa s pretty pleased with Worlds and am sorry I didn't get to meet Zxqueb in a game. Jack/Julz is a very nasty combo. It knocked me out in my top 8 game! My big problem is that was my 3 game against the German Champ (a great player) and he knew what I was going play. The advantage was all his. I also missed a roll I would really liked to have made! I need to find some time to type up and remember my games. I was very happy with my results of 7-2. One of my losses was to the German Champ. We were 1 vc each. He had VC 2. I had VC 1. I beat him next time we played. Then he beat me the last game. I am pretty happy coming home with 7-2. Marc (World champ X2) was saying he didn't want to play the German Champion. (Tilman) He was trying to figure out who he was paired against and was happy it wasn't Tilman! Worlds was run very well and a few minor delays but overall I was pretty pleased how everything went. I am really happy they made it a 3 day event instead of a 4 day event! When life calms a little bit I will go back to my usual posting

Ok.. I have a few minute break during lunch... I have a couple of stories from GenCon/Worlds. My first is .... Ok we did Secret Format in the morning. I was carrying my bag around. My friends come to lead me and a number of Worlds players to a Subway that was a little distance away. We get back in time for Constructed 600 pts. I remembered I hadn't written down my Planetary conditions yet and it is time for them to start checking armies. I reach into my bag looking for my army box (I had two because of being paranoid) I opened my box... and it wasn't my army. I start digging through my bag and can't find my army box. I must have left it in my room. I don't have a key to my hotel room. I figured I wouldn't need. Army checking was supposed to be stating NOW! I ask someone to watch my bag. I take off running. (my hotel is a few blocks away) I don't know where my friends are! I go running and through an extreme act of luck I run into one of them. He gives me the key. I take off running for the hotel. blocks later I get there. I come jogging back come around the corning thinking.. WOW I am late. I fly around the corner of a church.. a wedding is letting out.. All I see is suits and nice dresses as far as the eye can see. I find a way around without trampling the bride and groom. I come running back to the hall. I over a half late for checkin. I walk into the hall and everyone is sitting across form each other. I thought. Oh well not that way I wanted to finish of wolds was Dropping out. I am well past 30 minutes late. I ask Southpaw13.. i guess I am too late. He says "Too late for what" I say "to check in my army" He says.. Oh we are about to start.. I then realize he just had everyone sit down... WOW! I thought for sure I had been dropped from the tournament. I sit for the next well tired and exhausted but managed to get to play in the tournament! More stores at some other time
