Well, a couple more ideas. Taking on Z's idea of using Jack/Julz and a Shiro, I was wondering about this as a 600 point army:
Jack + Julz (LE - no recruit) Nebula Wendigo + Kisho (LE) + Anti Pers CNC Bishop + DF Tokugawa CNC Bishop + CNC Elite TBA + 2 x WH CBA WH Minigun
I'm afraid I don't have medium arm pierce or double rate and I know the army is vulnerable to black armour. I'd normally take a lot more support but it would mean loosing one of the drops (probably the Tokugawa). There's more tinkering to be done. As a sidenote, the force is also alliance pure + mercs which is one of the stipulations of the UK Nationals.
The other build type my son prefers is:
Persuader + Hero Pilot + SU Pulse Kuro Ha + NAIS Grad + Mech Repair 2 x ROTS CTs 3 x ROTS Minigun Cycles 2 x HK ATVs CNC ATV CJF Sylph
Anyway, we're heading off Thursday night and should arrive in Paris on the Fri pm. Camera is packed and I'll make as many notes as possible.
Allez les Rostbeufs!

Is your son's army Alliance pure? That does make it a little more difficult. I really really really like having a good pilot in the Persuader. It makes it so much better a unit. Also Point defense infantry might not be terrible to lower the Persuaders's defense so the CT's can repair him. You should have given me some notice I probably could have found a Double rate and ArP for you The wendigo is an ok unit. WIth only an 11 attack and 21 defense it seems a little weak to me. Sure Julz is going to help the attack some but it still seems like a RHDM is going to cause you a lot of Grief! I think a Shiro is a much better unit than the Nebula. Also Julz and the Tokugawa seem to duplicate abilities. and you are setting up for a big shot from the nebula. The shiro actually has a nice range and damage. Just my thoughts rambling out of my head.

I'm not ruling out a Shiro as the range/hitting power is immense. I think that equipping it with IT is a must and the points sink becomes pretty high. I think with Jack/Julz, there's just under 100 points of support which I'd probably use as ATVs/minigun swarms.
The Tokugawa was a last minute addition and it may well bite the dust in favour of support/harassers/basers/giving Jack BAP. The army, with its anti pers and ballistic, is designed at getting its missions done but I totally agree about the RHDM thing (but I quite like the idea of assaulting a TTL formation with 4 anti pers from 29 inches away when they're sat behind blocking!).
Tom's army isn't alliance pure and yes, the Persuader pilot stinks but I think the next one up is Vassilev for an extra 24 points.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Still time for more planning/plotting/calculator batteries!

I have a question. How are you assaulting a TTL Formation for 4 Anti P? Nebula only has 3 missle damage! i really don't think the AntiP is worth all those points for 3 damage. I know about all that planning and plotting. Good luck! I think that 24 points on Boris is well spent

Just my take on the Jack/Shiro combo...
Kaminari + Tadashi + IT (258+19+44) Jack + Julz (149+33) 2 x HK ATV (26) 1 x CNC ATV (14) 1 x CJF Sylph (30) 3 x ROTS Miniguns (27)
I think I'll pack them in the box of tricks..!

Doesn't the CJF Sylph invalidate the army? and ROTS Miniguns. I thought they had to be Faction pure?
The worst thing I did at worlds was let the stress get to me. You are much better off going and playing just to have fun (and doing your best)
It does look like a much more reasonable army.. You should think about PC's and mission cards also!

The Paris event is rainbow so we're OK for that. I would like to try and go alliance pure to try out an army in preparation for the UK Nats but that's only a secondary concern. I've managed to calm down through de-caf and yoga but now find myself typing this out in the Lotus positio.....mfgm,mf;.mfmh!! ;D

lol. Ok. I was somewhat confused. I kept seeing the messages about alliance pure and then not having alliance pure armies. I was really confused. I really think you need to seriously consider what type of PC's and missions you want and what kind you wish to counter!
You will be there before you know what happens. good luck to you and your son!

I like this army better.. Yes, you lose some support, but it packs much more punch. I agree with Baw too.. Julz and the DF toku do basically the same thing in your first army. And while you CAN hit, the toku folds quickly and hurts itself with the HB quickly. Plus, dropping and shooting through blocking is limiting with its 10" range. I think you need at least a 12" to fully use Jack's LE ability. If you want more support how about something like a pair of WH Mjolnirs + pilot + IT? It keeps from getting too many eggs in one basket, but still takes advantage of shooting through blocking. Plus they are armor piercing for 4 -- a total of 8 damage if you hit both -- better than the shiro. Of course, they also fold easier. On the other hand, they are less vulnerable to being based. Z

It is a lot of points for the Tokugawa drop and it is pretty much a 1 or 2 trick pony. I do like the DF tokugawa but it is pricey and tricky to use. The single use on it hurts it a bunch! If I were you I would like to get a couple of practice games in with whatever army I was taking. I know your time is limited now but experience with an army can help a bunch!

Guys, last post from me before I set off. Thanks for the help/advice. I hope to post reports/write ups as soon as I can. I'm sure there is some Gencon ruling about rotund, forty something Brits being allowed to use 4 dice rather than 3...

I am sure there is a forty something Brits with 4 dice rule. We are eagerly awaiting for the reports! I got some bad news today.. One of the venues I get to play at is going to close. I am down to 1 venue to play at 1 hour away It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't run 3 venues

Sounds like it's time to recruit a new battlemaster to take over one of your venues!
