They've managed to fix a date, venue and format at pretty short notice (well, the Germans are nothing if not "efficient" ): German Nationals & European Championship FormatSaturday Day 1- German Nationals and European Championship Restricted Event: All sets from MechWarrior: Age of Destruction onwards are legal for this event. A combined German and European Championship tournament 64 players at Hannover Spielt! Con (31.3.-1.4.). Each player is to bring two 600-point armies. Each army must have different figures from one another, so that each army is distinctly different and not contain any of the same figures or cards. AMENDED 1 MAR 07 - THIS RESTRICTION ONLY APPLIES TO UNIQUE AND LE PIECES (CARDS, MECHS OR PILOTS). COMMON PIECES MAY BE REPEATED. Players must submit armies on the day and once recorded cannot be changed unless the army is not tournament legal. Each army is to be recorded and used in the tournament phases. 11:00 Record Army builds and begin sealed element of Phase 1 11:30 – 15:00 Phase 1. 3 Rounds of Sealed (Booster Configuration TBD by vote) PLAYERS MAY BRING ALONG 1 PILOT CARD FOR USE IN THE SEALED PORTION15:30 – 18:30 Phase 2. 3 Rounds of Constructed (Use one of the pre-constructed 600 point armies, this army cannot be used in phase 3). Top 8 German Players Elimination (Can use any 600 point army build) 19:00 German Nationals Quarter Finals 20:00 German Nationals Semi Finals 21:00 German Nationals Finals Sunday Day 2- German Nationals and European Championship 10:30 – 12:30 Phase 3. 2 Rounds of Constructed (Use the remaining 600 point pre-constructed army). 12.50 European Championship Preliminary KO round 13.45 European Championship Quarter Finals 14:40 European Championship Semi Finals 15:35 European Championship Finals 16:30 Awards Ceremony The previous formats for this event have been a little strange but this year it looks like a straight 600 point constructed event. The bit about having 2 separate armies is a little strange but never mind - there doesn't seem to be anything riding on Day 1 that would affect you on Day 2. All in all, I think the guys have done a great job of getting this fixed up at very short notice. Now all we need to do is to tell the Dutch guys that the event actually takes place on the 8th of April and we'll be laughing...

I like that they are doing two unique armies. It's a nice way to force players to create something new and to add some variety to the competition.
Seems really cool

They have just amended those rules so that the "no repeat" of pieces only applies to uniques and LEs (that's mechs, pilots and gear).
Its an easing off of the rules but I would say that most armies tend to feature at least one LE in their army.

Ah. Too bad -- I thought it was more interesting with the stronger restrictions.

Ah well, i have already decided on wich armies i will use for the EC. And i am glad they loosened up the restrictions, i always see high level tournaments as a good reason to go all out. Bring the best, the cheesiest and the most frowned upon army you can think of, and expect no one to give any quarter. I honestly cant wait to throw my main army into a live fire experience, but i havent got a doubt about the endresult

Yippeee - I get to go thanks to Mrs C having weak moment and agreeing to let me out of the house for a couple of days!
I was concerned about not making the late flight out of Hannover airport on the Sunday but having seen some of the names lining up for this event, I really don't think this will be an issue - anyway, someone needs to watch the finals and type up a report for this site, don't they?
I'm looking forward to the sealed part but the constructed less so. I may well put up a "Help Phil decide what to take to Germany" thread very much in the style of Trev.
Best of all, I get to meet up with some great people who I really don't see often enough.
I'll have quite an act to follow now that the English Rugby Team have put one over the French and I'm pretty sure our Cricket Team would see off the Dutch in the World Cup - next stop for good old England must be the EU MW Title..!!!!!
(He wakes up from his dream only to find out that BattlePlanner v9.999 is telling him is "invincible" Jack/Peacemaker/Kuro Ha/SAD/BR Soli combo is a fraction over-pointed...bugger).

31 March 1st of April.... Expect some reports around the 2nd of april.... Yeah, so we can see how many Dutchmen filled the top 8 places... Got my armies sorted but its unlikely that they'll get tested to any degree. I think it will be a Jack + Shooter and a Kuro Ha-led build. Two different styles that should be able to work within the single hand of 5 PCCs/Missions. I've heard that the Germans use a lot of Sub-Zero and Caustic Atmosphere cards, so the support (about 100 to points per army)may be all BA but that isn't as flexible and rules out TTLs and ATVs which can be vital.

Tj I.we as a nation are honored by your trust in our abilities. However nothing is guarenteed....
I do hope to succesfully defend my title however I will do my best, making top 8 will be hard enough.
I mean look at our cricket team obvious the best Dutch Cricket team in ages and still they got wiped out....

What?
Since when is there a dutch cricket team? Is cricket even a sport? (j/k)
I think that 90% of the people there will have a Jack + long range shooter. To beat them with your own version of it you need to either go for Shiro + Jack, or be really lucky with your PCC's Atleast, beat them reliably that is.
If you want some help with your armies i think everyone here is more then willing to assist you.

What? Since when is there a dutch cricket team? Is cricket even a sport? (j/k) Cricket is a world class sport right up until the point when England get taken out in the Super 8 phase of the World Cup - then it just becomes a game... I see that they are allowing players to bring 1 pilot card to the sealed event. Mmm - do I go for the safe option and use Kerensky or take a risk on Kelly or Ayiko? As for armies, here is my short list: Kuro Ha/Tormark/IT BR Soli/Lil Turner WH Vixen/JP Millhew 5 x HD Purifiers BR Soli/Graves/C3i CNC PH1/Goshen/C3i Marrow Wulfen/Phelan Ward/C3i Glory/Gloria/C3i Thug Neanderthal/Vasquez/SU Evade BR Soli/Goshen/RISC Viral Decoy Jammer BR Soli/Goshen/Lock-on Targetting 4 x BR Raiden BA BR FP ROTS S Spider/Raptis/C3i ROTS Gambit/Tamar Grad/C3i Liao Mjolnir/Tamar Grad/C3i ROTS Bishop 3 x Liao TGRs Liao C Techs ROTS/Liao SA Kuro Ha/Tormark/IT Yen Low Wang/Centrella/BAP ROTS Bishop 2 x HS TTLs 3 x CNC ATVs Alpha/Kerensky/IT Jack/LE Julz ROTS Bishop 2 x HS TTLs LE C Techs 3 x HK ATVs Any thoughts/views would be most welcome. Heck, cast your vote if you want - after all the Eurovision Song Contest isn't too far away...

Have I ever mentioned just how much I hate LE Julz. Her existence really limits the number of competitive builds in the metagame. I really hope it's less than 90%. Z

Jack with Jules really hurts the game. I'm gonna state that piece definetly helped sway me to QUIT the game more than any other piece in the game itself. She just breaks the rules too much. Not even the 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse break the rules that much.

I see that they are allowing players to bring 1 pilot card to the sealed event. Mmm - do I go for the safe option and use Kerensky or take a risk on Kelly or Ayiko? Well, the safest thing is indeed to bring DOM-GS-038 or DOM-GS-045 (A. Kerensky) wich i will probably do. Taking Kelly Bonilla is also an interesting choice, but still to much of a gamble imho. Kuro Ha/Tormark/IT BR Soli/Lil Turner WH Vixen/JP Millhew 5 x HD Purifiers Trouble hitting high defenses sadly (SAD - Solitude - Hammerfall) BR Soli/Graves/C3i CNC PH1/Goshen/C3i Marrow Wulfen/Phelan Ward/C3i Glory/Gloria/C3i Interesting, but C3i is to gimicky. Thug Neanderthal/Vasquez/SU Evade BR Soli/Goshen/RISC Viral Decoy Jammer BR Soli/Goshen/Lock-on Targetting 4 x BR Raiden BA BR FP Solid build, but i'd switch around the Raidens and Lock on Targeting to make place for a M. Repair incase you get True Grit against you. ROTS S Spider/Raptis/C3i ROTS Gambit/Tamar Grad/C3i Liao Mjolnir/Tamar Grad/C3i ROTS Bishop 3 x Liao TGRs Liao C Techs ROTS/Liao SA I dont think you can make up for the 40 points with these 3 mechs :/ Kuro Ha/Tormark/IT Yen Low Wang/Centrella/BAP ROTS Bishop 2 x HS TTLs 3 x CNC ATVs Solid build, can make life difficult for a lot of people if played properly Alpha/Kerensky/IT Jack/LE Julz ROTS Bishop 2 x HS TTLs LE C Techs 3 x HK ATVs Hmmmm, where have i seen this one earlier? Lemme think real hard... Nope, sorry not a clue ;-)
