Did I miss something or the Worlds are going to be only 9 round in total? Do you guys know if the constructed on the last day (that I hope is Sunday and not Saturday as posted on Mwrealm) is for everyone or only for the TOP X?

It is going to be a very very busy saturday. I wouldn't be suprised to see one of the rounds get cut on Saturday. I will hope for the best but things tend to get confused and run a lot slower when I am running a venue with 8 people who know each other. A big group of individualist like that isn't going to be moving as fast as they are hoping, I think.

I mean, we're going to the States, spend some money, and play for 6 rounds? 9 if you're lucky (by lucky I intend you don't pull three goshawks in the sealed) and only the final 3 with your carefully build/bought/pulled/traded army. You play 9 rounds minimum and if you make top 8 you make 3 more rounds on sunday.
Friday 4 rounds sealed + 150 points.
Saterday 2 rounds 2x300points secret format) + 3 rounds 600 points constructed. 5 rounds
Makes for 9 rounds
And top 8 plays 3 rounds on sunday.

You keep saying that, but we've had five rounds of Constructed at Nationals before. I wasn't there this year, but in '05, we had the following format:
Day 1: Sealed, 4 rounds.
Day 2: Constructed, 5 rounds.
Day 3: Top 8, Single Elimination.
Basically the same as we're getting this year. It worked fine. It was a well-run tournament, we had hour-long lunch breaks, and people still had time to check out the dealer hall and whatnot. And that was with ~100 people there. With 25-35 people there, 5 rounds on Saturday should be fine.
I am annoyed, however, that Sealed is getting more weight than Constructed for non-Top 8 players. The only way a Super Secret formation should be a part of Worlds is in a 4-day tournament. Then it could be:
Day 1: Sealed, 4 rounds.
Day 2: SSF, 4 rounds.
Day 3: Constructed, 4 rounds.
Day 4: Top 8, Single Elimination.
I understand the argument that Worlds is about our abilities as players and not just our ability to trade for and construct the best possible armies, but at the end of the day, 90% of the games we play are Constructed. Constructed is the most important part of the game. There, I said it.
If I'm Southpaw, here's how I change the format.
Day 1:
Phase 1 - Sealed, 150-point sideboard, 2 rounds.
Phase 2 - SSF, 2 rounds.
Day 2:
Phase 3 - Constructed, 600 pts., 4 rounds.
Day 3:
Phase 4 - Top 8, Single Elimination.

it is going to be an interesting few days! Sealed is going to play a big factor but the 150 takes a lot of the flavor of sealed out of it. (although... Vanguard is not good sealed) I had hoped we would get to do Wolfstrike sealed! That would have been a great day! @trevor I guess I have too many memories of short games in during the first nationals. The concern I have about time is the explanation for the SSF and then people trying to figure it out and actually impelmenting the SSF rounds. By no means am I saying it can't be done and I am sure SouthPaw13 has a good grasp on it, I am just expressing concern that I would rather drop a game than end up with short games. They did a great job last year. I keep forgetting this is GenCon also not a comic book convention. They won't ever kick us out of the room for playing too long I apologize for my negativity about the situation. I just remember the first nationals. I will probably remember that event for as long as I remember what Mechwarrior is They had problems with planning too much in too short a time. |

5 rounds is easy back in the day when 300 was enough (move over young snapperwapper) kuch kuch some whiskey now. On day 2 of Worlds '03 When man where men.. On Day 1 because of all organizational problems. We did 4 rounds on day 2 we did 8 they sheduled 6 on each day and we had to keep up.....
And then there was Euro's '05 the slaughter on that day was fenomal, as well you should know young wippersnaper it was planned 8 rounds and we all did 8 rounds......

brinxter... Are you saying that this isn't a MAJOR FORUM? Zxqueb will have to have a little talk with you :lol: @trevor Scarred for life again are you? You SnapperWapper you. Constructed is a big part of the game. It is going to take some luck to get into the final 8 where constructed is going to play a large part. It will be interesting. @elite I guess our chances of meeting in Constructed have gone down significantly. I enjoy sealed.. Even when I pull junky pieces. It makes me play pieces and come up with plans that I would never do on a dare during a normal game.

bawhow so have chances gone down there is now a constructed part not exclusive to top 8. Before we both had to reach top 8 to pay each other in constructed. now we can meet twice actualy. And there is always thursday.... But I will try to challenge strange americans into defeating me. Heopefully they will place some money on the games.... Hee Ineed to get some moeny back from my investment you know....

our chances have gone down from what I originally thought worlds was going to be.. not the revised versions. It would be nice to be able to play you in top 8 but I am afraid it wouldn't be a casual game It would be nice to be able to play you twice during worlds. I certainly hope that we both get into top 8. I think a lot of it is going to be luck of the draw but we shall give it our best! |
